About this ebook
To Whom Ever This May Concern;
I wish I could tell you the contents of this book were purely fictional. That I, Adela Arthur, was just a normal sixteen year old from Portland and that dragons, giants, elves and mermaids were just myths. I wish these were legends shared from crazy old grandparents to crazy old grandparents around campfires. After all, that is what I used to believe.
I never would have thought they lived on the other side of our mirrors in a world called Cielieu. But they do...
I never would have thought there were humans, better known as Volsin that lived among them with the ability to create light from a single thought. But there are...
I never would have thought I was one of them... But I am...
I am the last Arthur and I was brought to the human world after a Volsin, filled with greed, began to strip the light from our kind.
The human world was supposed to be a safe haven... but he’s found us and the only way to stop him is to go back to Cielieu and begin training as a student in the Elpida Castle of Light.
Like I said I wish the contents of this book were purely fictional and not my life...

Reviews for Adela Arthur and the Creator's Clock

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book is definitely derivative of the Harry Potter series. That does not automatically make it plagiarism; a whole slew of technothrillers arose after Tom Clancy pubbed The Hunt for Red October, but that was the start of a new genre, not plagiarism. Lately it seems every fourth new YA series is set in a school of magic housed in an enchanted castle or at least an estate. So a case could be made for describing this book as YA Fantasy & Magic, subgenre Magical Education.The author has a wonderful imagination and her universe's system of magic is entirely new to me. Unfortunately, neither the writing, nor the editing and proofreading this book received, contribute to the storytelling. Very little of the story is shown; most of it is told, creating neither suspense nor sympathy for the characters. There's also little differentiation between the secondary characters, making them basically interchangeable. The group of friends surrounding the main character became so large, I quit bothering. The author may as well have deleted all her taglines and beats, which by the way were placed at the end of most paragraphs, leaving the reader wondering who's speaking during various long speeches.The formatting is beautiful; wish I could say the same for the editing and proofreading. On every screen, there's a word missing, a word added, two words confused (they're/their/there), or a strange juxtaposition that left me wondering what the author and/or editor were drinking. (Some liquids should not be imbibed while preparing mss.) I'm willing to tolerate this, sometimes even a lot of this, but only when the writing, atmosphere, suspense, etc., carry the story past the errors. That doesn't happen here. As well, there are several small but annoying plot holes, such as the main character waking up in the infirmary, being wrapped in a sheet by a love interest, and then dragged elsewhere in the castle, only for her to look down minutes later at her school uniform. If she's dressed (in the infirmary bed) then why the sheet?Lots of potential here. Not a lot of fulfillment. Two stars.
