About this ebook
Neive felt her heart breaking. Alice was grooming Cassidy for someone special. And that meant he would be dating. Neive was so in love with him. If only he knew how she felt. Neive decided that if he was going to be dating then she would be too. She would not be left out in the cold. But she would not get in the way either. Cassidy would realize that she was also a woman. Neive had a brainwave. She would conjure up an imaginary boyfriend. What was one tiny little white lie? In the days that followed Neive had a total image change. And everyone thought she had a boyfriend. Out of the blue her imaginary boyfriend started sending her flowers. Followed by a parcel. Neive felt awful. Someone knew the truth. Someone knew that she had been fibbing! Alice had a plan. She would use all the information supplied to herself and Cassidy to actually get them together. And the movies was the perfect place! If Neive was so obsessed with leather she would supply that too!

CHAPTER 1
Neive typed the last document for the day, printed it and put it into the blotter ready for Mister Ritter to sign in the morning. She sighed as she printed the envelope and put it standing up on her desk against her printer. She was such a perfectionist. Once the document was signed it would be put straight into the envelope and then in to the out tray. Her copy would be filed. Nothing ever came back to be changed. Her letters and documents were always perfect.
Felicity walked through. Hey doll.
Neive whispered. Don’t call me that!
But you look like a doll!
I don’t feel like a doll. So cut it out!
Felicity giggled. Are you coming with us?
Not tonight.
Felicity almost wailed. You never come out. Are you seeing someone?
No.
Well then come out with us.
No.
Well then you definitely are seeing someone.
Neive sighed. Felicity. Don’t you get it? The man I am interested in doesn’t even see me. Look at me. I am just a plain old Personal Assistant. Why would I go out with you? No one is even interested!
Felicity shook her head. So do something about it. If you feel so badly about yourself go and have your hair coloured. Don’t take it out on me!
Neive sighed. Colour my hair?
Felicity chuckled. Goodbye. See you tomorrow.
Neive nodded and sighed. Go. Get out of here.
Felicity roared with laughter as she walked out. Enjoy the evening.
Felicity grinned. Missing out doll!
Don’t call me that!
Felicity grinned as she walked down the passage.
Neive tidied her desk and took her handbag. She took her cell phone out of the drawer and put it in her bag. Neive shut down her PC. She sighed as she got up. She smiled as she looked in the office. Night Mister Ritter. See you in the morning. Have a good evening.
Cassidy nodded. Night Neive. Have a lovely evening.
Neive looked down and smiled. Night.
She walked out and turned her office light out and walked down the passage.
Cassidy sighed. He closed his eyes. He was so in love with Neive and she had no idea. He couldn’t look her in the eyes. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Neive had worked for him for three years. She knew everything about Cassidy. His preferences. His dislikes. The way he liked to work. She even knew his preference in tyres for his car. Cassidy shook his head. He had no idea how to even make an advance on her. Cassidy smiled. She did look like a doll. Felicity was right. He loved listening to the banter between the two. Neive had the biggest, brownest eyes he had ever seen. She had a very fair complexion and jet black hair. Cassidy groaned. She had every curve in the right place.
Dennis walked through and stopped in Cassidy’s office. Ritter. You not going home?
Cassidy sighed. Yeah.
Heavy day?
Cassidy smiled and shook his head. Dennis chuckled. Have you seen the blonde?
Which blonde?
The accountant.
Cassidy nodded. You mean Felicity?
Felicity? I don’t know. I know her by Miss Jones.
Cassidy nodded. Felicity Jones. Head of accounting.
Dennis nodded and chuckled. He pulled his fingers through his hair. How does one go about. You know. Asking someone, a stranger, on a date?
Cassidy grinned. Hell Dennis. I am in the same boat. So when you get some advice come and tell me.
Dennis chuckled. You?
Cassidy sighed. Pretty much.
Dennis shook his head as they both walked out of the office block.
Neive sat in front of the mirror and twisted her hair into her normal coiffe and pinned every stray hair away. She applied her make-up and stepped into her long skirt. She always wore roomy skirts and a smart blouse with a pair of stilettos. She headed over to work.
Neive pulled up her chair and phoned and made an appointment at the hairdresser for just after work. She went onto the internet and looked at a few sales that were on at a few of the clothing stores. Neive smiled. She would change her image, she vowed. She hated the way she dressed. But it was such a habit to pull on a long skirt and a blouse.
Cassidy walked in and smiled. Good morning.
Neive smiled. Good morning. Your coffee is on your desk. You have five minutes and you have to leave.
Cassidy smiled and nodded. Thanks.
He put down his briefcase and downed his coffee. He couldn’t wait to get to the office in the morning. Just to see and speak to Neive. You think the red or the brown tie?
He walked through with both ties in his hands. Neive got up and took the red one and slipped it around his collar. She flipped his collar up and started fastening his tie. Felicity walked through and coughed. Neive and Cassidy looked up. Morning Felicity.
Neive. Doll.
Neive let out a little sigh. Do I look like a doll?
Felicity grinned. Cassidy smiled. Are you coming out with us tonight?
No. I have a hair appointment after work. And then I am going in for my sex change.
Felicity grinned. Right.
Go away Felicity. No I am not coming out with you. I am busy.
Cassidy smiled as Neive straightened his collar. Oh please Neive. There is this really cute guy.
Neive grunted. No.
Cassidy smiled as Neive wiped down his jacket. But he is so cute.
Felicity Jones. I am not interested. I have someone I have my eye on. And he is certainly not cuuuuuuute!
Ooooh. So who is he then?
Neive shook her head. Go away. You are such a pest.
Felicity chuckled as she walked out. Cassidy smiled and looked down into Neive’s eyes. She looked up and suddenly looked down. There we go. Now have a pleasant morning. See you later. You look nice and smart.
Cassidy nodded. He felt like kissing her. He almost whispered. So who is he then?
Neive shrugged. Who?
Your man?
Neive shook her head. He doesn’t exist.
Cassidy nodded. He headed out for the morning.
Cassidy walked back into his office at lunchtime and sat down. Neive walked through with his blotter and put it down. She looked at her watch. Alice should be here in five minutes.
Cassidy sighed. Neive smiled and chuckled. Oh it’s nice to have her visit.
Cassidy groaned. Right. She is always after something.
Neive smiled and shook her head.
Neive smiled as she walked through the door. Hi Alice.
Hi.
She brushed past Neive and walked into the office. Cassidy.
Cassidy nodded. Alice closed the door and sat down. Cassidy got up and opened the door. Alice leaned forward. I don’t want anyone to hear.
Neive is not just anyone.
Alice shook her head. Okay look. I have been thinking about your dilemma.
Cassidy stared at Alice. I think I know how you can. Uhm. Change things.
Cassidy nodded and smiled and whispered. How?
Do you really want her to notice you?
Cassidy nodded. Yes.
Are you willing to try anything?
Cassidy nodded. Almost anything.
Alice nodded. Right. I think I need to come and see you this evening. We have a few things we need to be doing.
Cassidy nodded. And what are you going to do at my house?
Alice giggled. Wardrobe.
Cassidy nodded. I wear the same suits every day. Now that is not going to change.
No, but your evenings and your weekends are.
Neive already bought me a nice pair of jeans for when we had our company casual day.
And that is the only decent pair you have!
Cassidy nodded and smiled. He chuckled. Alice didn’t realise he lived in the jeans Neive had chosen for him.
Neive smiled as she listened. She felt a little heart sore. It sounded as though Alice was going to be grooming Cassidy for a woman. Neive closed her eyes as she listened to the conversation. She got up and headed out of her office. She needed to go to the bathroom. She was really feeling gloomy.
Cassidy watched as she slipped out of her office. He whispered. What else?
Alice leaned forward. Flowers. You need to start sending her flowers. Every single day. Like a secret admirer.
Cassidy smiled and nodded. I will do anything.
Alice nodded. Now meet me just after work. Outside.
Cassidy sighed. Okay.
Alice smiled as she got up.
Neive walked into the office. Alice hadn’t seen her.
Don’t you worry brother dearest. I’ll have you married soon.
Cassidy looked as Neive walked through to her office. Their eyes met and Neive suddenly looked away. He looked at Alice with huge eyes. She realised Neive had returned. See ja.
Cassidy nodded.
Alice stopped at Neive. So Neive. Are you seeing anyone then?
Neive smiled and nodded. As a matter of fact I met someone just last night. At the movies.
Alice stared. Oh!
Neive nodded. Mel. Really good looking guy. Awesome build. Dark hair. Dark eyes. Must be Irish. Absolutely gorgeous in leather. Leather really does something for me.
Neive smiled. Sorry Alice. I’ll be back in a sec.
Neive walked down the passage and went back to the bathroom.
Alice stepped into Cassidy’s office. I don’t care whether his name is bloody Charles Bronson! I will see you later.
Cassidy smiled. He leaned back in his chair. He knew Neive had not been to the movies. If she had been they would have discussed the movie at length. They always did. Cassidy leaned forward in his chair and sighed. What if Neive hadn’t told him that she had been out? What if she had actually met someone? Cassidy closed his eyes and whispered. Please no.
Alice stared at Cassidy. She almost felt his reaction. Alice turned as Neive walked into her office. Neive smiled. So, grooming Mister Ritter then?
Alice nodded. He’s head over heels and in love with someone. Madly in love. The woman doesn’t even see him though. Major problem.
Neive nodded. I can’t believe that.
Alice nodded. It’s true.
Neive shook her head. I don’t believe that for a second. Mister Ritter has everything going for him. Good looks. Personality. Style. Class. Everything.
Alice looked at Neive. Neive suddenly looked down at her desk. She opened her diary and looked at her day. Alice leaned over. Busy evening then?
Neive looked up and nodded. So, so.
Alice scanned her diary. She read a few entries just after five. Having your hair done?
Neive nodded. Going blonde. Big change.
Alice gasped. I hope not!
Neive shook her head. Alice. Look at me!
Alice nodded. I’m looking.
What do you see?
Cassidy walked out. A beautiful young woman.
Neive blushed slightly and smiled as she looked up at Cassidy. She smiled and looked away. Thank you.
Alice threw her hands in the air. See?
Neive chuckled. I’m not going blonde. But I am going to change the way I look. You won’t even recognise me in the morning. There is going to be an image change happening. Out with the old. In with the new.
Cassidy grinned. But I am not in tomorrow morning.
Neive chuckled. No you are not. So I am going to give my new look a test run tomorrow. And if one person says anything negative then it will save you the embarrassment of seeing for yourself.
Cassidy chuckled and shook his head. Neive, you don’t need to change.
Neive nodded. I do Mister Ritter. I do.
Alice grinned. See you tomorrow!
Neive gasped. No need Miss Ritter!
Alice grinned. Why does it always sound so nice when you call him Mister Ritter. But with me it is like I am being naughty and going to be punished?
Neive grinned. Miss Ritter. Your time is up. Next.
Alice giggled as one of Cassidy’s colleagues walked in. Cassidy roared with laughter. Alice waved. Tomorrow!
Dennis grinned as he walked in. Hey Cas. You free this evening?
Cassidy shook his head. Not tonight.
Dennis nodded and threw his hands in the air. When?
Cassidy shook his head. I have an appointment this evening.
Dennis nodded. Do I make appointments with Miss Newton for after five?
Cassidy chuckled. I am seeing Alice tonight.
Dennis nodded. Right. Why is it that you never ever come for drinks?
He walked out of the office.
Cassidy took a seat on Neive’s desk. Mel who, Neive? You said you hadn’t met anyone.
Neive nodded and looked at the envelopes on her desk. She whispered. Gibson.
Cassidy nodded. He walked back to his office and sat down. He felt his heart sink to the soles of his feet. He whispered. Gibson.
He called out. Do I know him?
No.
Where did you meet him?
At the movies.
Cassidy nodded and got up. He walked to Neive’s desk. You went to the movies last night?
Neive looked down and blushed and nodded. With him?
Neive cleared her throat. I met him there.
Cassidy nodded. He walked out of the office and down the passage. He was out of the office for hours. He didn’t even come back before Neive left.
Neive felt awful. She had told such a whopping big lie and she didn’t like it. Not one bit. But if Cassidy was going to be gunning for a woman then she would step aside and let him get on with it. Clearly he didn’t think anything of her. And if he did have a girlfriend then she would have a boyfriend. Even if he was imaginary and a figment of her imagination.
Neive walked over to the hairdresser after work. Chop. I want it in a slick bob. Heavy fringe. But perfect. I need to be able to manage it.
The hairdresser grinned. Yes Ma’am!
Neive chuckled. Sandra, what do you think?
Neive took a picture out and showed Sandra. Sandra grinned. Oh yes. Oh yes. Oh yes!
Neive chuckled. You think?
Sandra nodded. We open at seven in the morning. So pop by on your way to work and if there is anything out of place we can quickly have a once over.
Neive giggled and nodded. Right. Chop.
Sandra took about an hour. Neive looked in the mirror and nodded. Oh Sandra!
Sandra grinned. Hell Neive! You look like a superstar!
Neive nodded and folded the picture
