Preface
This is the book I wish I had when I first began learning about marketing and social media. Many books on social media marketing give lots of tips and tricks, but they always seem to miss the mark when it comes to giving context to information they give. This isn’t unique to these authors though, many of teachers I had growing up always left me wondering why should I care?
In this book, I hope to alleviate you from asking that question and open your eyes to the potential that social media brings to the marketing table. For someone who’s been in marketing for quite a while but is new to the concept of using social media, this book will integrate the mysteries of social media with the basic concepts of marketing that you’re already familiar with. For new marketers who are already using social media but are unclear as to how it can be used to attract customers and make money, this book will guide you in transferring your social media prowess to the business world.
The marketing world has changed from the days of splashing a logo everywhere just to get peoples’ attention. Consumers are smarter now and are no longer satisfied with simply being sold to. People want a connection with a real person that they are convinced is trying to solve their problems. The corporate ivory tower that used to be prevalent in the earlier days of marketing is out. Building personal connections between companies and customers is in and social media is making it happen.
Implementing social media with your current marketing plan can grow your business quickly and very cost effectively, but you need to know how to do it properly. Not every social media platform is for every business and you will need to figure out which ones will help you reach your customers the most. By understanding the unique abilities each social media outlet has, you will maximize your marketing efforts and connect with your customers like never before.
