About this ebook
There is no better way to see America than on foot. And there is no better way to appreciate what you are looking at than with a walking tour. Whether you are preparing for a road trip or just out to look at your own town in a new way.
Each walking tour describes historical and architectural landmarks and provides pictures to help out when those pesky street addresses are missing. Every tour also includes a quick primer on identifying architectural styles seen on American streets.
Stretching from East 59th Street all the way up to 110th Street, from Fifth Avenue eastward to the river, the elite Upper East Side has since the1800s been the place to live for Manhattanites who value the cachet of their address, as well as for those who truly appreciate the serenity, charm and rich architecture inherent in the neighborhood’s personality. The United States Census claims that the Upper East Side had the highest per capita income of any urban quarter in the nation.
The over-50 block Upper East Side is home to some of Manhattan’s most luxurious residences Certainly, alongside Central Park, between Fifth & Lexington Avenues up to about 96th Street or so, the trappings of wealth are apparent everywhere. During America’s Gilded Age of the late 1800s Fifth Avneue was known as “Millionaire’s Mile.” Generations later, with many of the most fantastical spaces converted to alternate use, it is referred to as “Museum Mile.”
This walking tour will start at the foot of the Upper East Side on 59th Street and Central Park. Begin mby marching north on Fifth Avenue with the park on your left and sumptious architecture on your right...
