About this ebook

Chad was totally thrown when Tarryn sat on her Harley and asked the strangest question ever. The comments she made sent Chad in to a bit of a tizz. He knew he had to do something. He had sat by for years watching her grow up into a striking young woman. She had always been ‘hands off’ because of her age. He was head over heels in love with her. Every time she breezed in, in her sexy little short shorts, her vest and her canvas shoes, he could not help but look. But would he be able to step out of his comfort zone? Being shy didn’t help matters either. But this was his chance and he had to take it.

    CHAPTER 1

Tarryn smiled and walked through the open front door.

Hi Mister Walters. Chad looked up and smiled.

In his bedroom sweetheart. Tarryn nodded and smiled shyly. Chad smiled as she walked through. He watched her as she walked. She had a gorgeous little figure. She always wore skimpy little shorts, tank tops and a pair of canvas shoes. It wasn’t that she wanted to show off or anything. But she was comfortable like that.

Hey! Gary smiled as she walked in to his bedroom.

What gives? Tarryn took a seat on the chair in his bedroom.

I am not going to go out with the crowd anymore. Gary stared at her.

    Why?

Because everyone thinks I am dating William.

And you aren’t? Tarryn sighed and shook her head.

No you know I am not. Gary nodded and grinned.

Why the sudden change of heart then? Tarryn got up and paced. Gary watched her.

This isn’t sudden is it Tarryn? Tarryn shook her head.

And there is much more than you are actually saying. Isn’t there? Tarryn nodded and stopped pacing. She looked at her feet.

    Gary looked at her.

Tarryn talk. Tell me what is going on.

I am in love. I didn’t mean for it to happen. But it just did. It isn’t my fault. And I can’t help it.

    But not with William.

    Hell no.

So who are you in love with?

Chad got up and walked down the passage. He stopped and listened.

Tarryn who are you in love with? Who is he?

    I can’t tell you that.

    Do I know this guy?

    Yes you do.

Does he feel the same way about you? Tarryn sighed.

I don’t know. No I don’t think so. All I know is that every time I see him my stomach is in knots. Just the sight of him gets me going.

    Who is he?

I can’t tell you Gary. You would probably throw me out of here and never talk to me again.

Okay so I know this bloke. Tarryn nodded.

Tarryn are you sleeping with him?

    No. Definitely not.

So why can’t you tell me?

    Because.

Tarryn. Because is not an answer. So I know him. Is he younger than you?

No. That is the problem. He is probably double my age. He could be my father. Tarryn groaned.

Chad stood and listened. He didn’t mean to eavesdrop but he couldn’t help himself.

Okay. This is a problem. Tarryn shook her head.

So I am going to stop going out. Just because I chat to William people think we are an item. And we are not. That guy makes me cringe when he touches me. Gary chuckled.

So you go out with me and we can ditch William.

Not really fair on you or him. Gary shook his head.

How old is your Dad Gary?

    My Dad? Why?

    Just wondered.

    Thirty six.

    Is that all? Gary nodded.

He was eighteen when I was born. Tarryn nodded.

    Okay. Going.

Chad turned and walked towards the lounge. He sat down and waited. He loved looking at Tarryn. Even though she was so young she was very mature for her age. She wasn’t a young girl anymore but a young woman. And she did have a lovely figure. Chad smiled to himself. He got up and walked out the front door. He would be able to see Tarryn for a while longer.

He smiled as she walked out of the front door. She walked over to her bike.

Bye sweetheart. Tarryn smiled and nodded and almost whispered.

Bye. She hopped on to her bike and started it up. She put her helmet on and sat for a few seconds. Chad knew she was contemplating something. Tarryn looked at Chad and smiled. He smiled. She slowly started moving her bike backwards. Chad walked over.

Can I help? Tarryn smiled as he pulled her bike slowly. She stopped the bike.

    Mister Walters.

Chad. Chad nodded and looked at Tarryn. He could see the questions running through her head.

No. It doesn’t matter. Chad shook his head.

    Ask the question. She nodded.

What do you think of a relationship when the one is much older than the other? Chad smiled and looked at Tarryn.

I think. As long as they love each other. It doesn’t really matter how old partners are. Tarryn nodded.

Okay. You personally. How would you feel if someone half your age. Uhm. Fell in love with you. Chad looked at Tarryn and she looked away.

Tarryn. I am in the same position as you.

Tarryn stared at Chad and took her helmet off.

The young lady in question is half my age. I don’t know what she sees when she looks at me. She breezes in and out. And every time I see her my heart gets a sudden jolt. I haven’t said anything to her about the way I feel. I wasn’t going to. Tarryn nodded.

But why? Why haven’t you said anything to her?

Are you in the same position? Tarryn nodded and looked at her helmet which she held between her legs.

    Tarryn. Tarryn looked up.

I am stuck. I might be eighteen but I feel way older. Kind of an old me but in a young body. I have fallen in love with the most amazing man ever. Okay he is kind of awesome. Good looking. Good body. Chad chuckled. Tarryn giggled and blushed.

But he is double my age. Exactly double. I don’t have a problem with it. But maybe he has a problem. What if I told him and he does have a problem and laughs at me?

And that is why you haven’t said a word. Tarryn nodded and looked at Chad.

Really the same dilemma? Chad nodded.

She is eighteen. And studying. Which will take a few years. She has a body to die for. When I see her my little stomach churns with excitement. Tarryn chuckled and shook her head. Chad nodded.

But there is more to her than her body. Her whole persona gets to me. Everything about her. Chad smiled and looked at Tarryn. He looked in to her eyes. She blinked and looked down.

    Right.

    Chad smiled.

Tell you what. You give me a buzz and tell me when you have approached him and told him. Tarryn chuckled.

I might never give you a call. Chad smiled.

I am going to give you my number. Let me load yours on to my cell phone. Chad took out his cell phone. He typed in her name and Tarryn smiled as she gave her number.

I bet there are lots of females on that phone. Chad chuckled.

Lots. A girl called Doris. Oh sorry that is my mother. Then there is a Deloris who is my Gran. Oh and Grace. Now that is my sister. Other than that. Nope. Not another name. Tarryn frowned.

Why? Chad smiled and looked at Tarryn. He spoke softly.

Look at me Tarryn. What do you see? I will tell you what I see. I am thirty six. I have a son who is half my age. I am not young anymore. I have grey hair. I am old. That is what I see. Tarryn shook her head.

You are so wrong. You might be thirty six but that is not old. You are lucky to have that son of yours. You are young. You might have the grey hair but you aren’t bald. I don’t see an old man. I see. You. Tarryn suddenly looked down. Chad looked at her.

Tarryn. She looked up and smiled.

    I. Uhm. Going. I have to go.

    Chad looked at Tarryn.

Tarryn what do you really see when you look at me? Tarryn put her helmet on.

The woman who ends up marrying you is a very lucky lady. Chad smiled. She smiled and looked at Chad.

Can I call you, Tarryn? Tarryn smiled and nodded.

Yes. You may. Any time. Chad smiled and nodded.

I am going to. Tarryn smiled. Chad winked as she pulled off. Chad watched as she rode out. He walked inside and smiled to himself. He was so in love with Tarryn. It was the first time that they had ever really chatted on their own. He found it easy to talk to her. And he felt good. It was a touchy conversation but he felt as if he knew who she was talking about. He had hidden his feelings for a very long time. He could remember the day that she turned eighteen. Chad walked in the house and smiled.

    CHAPTER 2

    Gary walked down the passage.

Why are you smiling like that Dad? Chad shook his head.

Has Tarryn just left? Chad nodded.

Strange. She walked out about half an hour ago.

    We got chatting. Gary nodded.

Tarryn has a bit of a problem.

    How so?

She has fallen for a man who is twice her age.

So what is the problem? Gary shook his head.

I don’t see a problem. Really. Tarryn has always been older in some ways. Maybe she needs someone older. A guy who is more mature than the others. Chad nodded.

She is a lovely young lady. Gary nodded.

She is. She is going to be a good Doctor. Chad nodded.

So is she staying at home or is she going to go to the boarding house?

At home at the moment. I don’t think she wants to go to the boarding house. I think she might end up renting her own place. Which doesn’t make sense. If she doesn’t she is going to ask her folks if she can move in to the little room at the back of the house. She wants her own place. But money is tight. Chad nodded.

Why doesn’t she want to go to the boarding house?

Tarryn won’t fit in. She is just. I don’t know. Too mature? Hard to put in words.

So she is going to ask for the little room at home?

    Gary nodded.

I can’t see them saying yes.

    Why not?

Because they want her where they can keep an eye on her.

    But she is eighteen.

Yes Dad. But her brothers and sisters have made circumstances a little difficult for her. She is the youngest and they treat her like a kid. Chad nodded.

How have her family made her life difficult?

I am not divulging this. When Tarryn chats to me it doesn’t go any further. Chad nodded.

Tosh is twenty. Not working and can’t find a job. Chad nodded.

Meaning he can’t or he doesn’t want to?

Doesn’t want to. Then you get Duncan. He works in a shop as a sales assistant. He has no goals. Then her sister Lisa. She is twenty five. She is in rehab at the moment. For the second or third time.

    Why?

Drugs. The heavy stuff. Chad nodded.

And her oldest sister Ruth. She is married and a housewife. Absolutely no ambition. Chad nodded.

So Tarryn is really the odd man out.

Kind of the black sheep of the family but to the opposite extreme. Chad nodded.

Do they all still live at home?

Tosh, Duncan and Lisa. They are still at home. That is the problem. Tarryn tries to study and they don’t understand that she needs the space. Chad nodded.

And here we sit with three bedrooms. One vacant. Gary chuckled and nodded.

I am a little worried about Tarryn. Dad. She is really head over heels in love. But she is stuck. I don’t know why she can’t tell the bloke. I don’t know who he is. What do I tell her? Chad smiled.

Gary you just stay friends. Let her do the talking. Gary smiled and nodded.

I always do. This isn’t new. But it has taken a long time for her to mention it. Chad nodded.

What will happen if she finds her own place?

I somehow think that might happen. Tarryn is scared that they. Her parents. Will stop paying her tuition fees. The fees for the first half of the year are paid for. But what if they stop paying.

A chance she needs to take. Gary nodded.

Gary. Chad sat down in the kitchen.

We have our storage room. It is standing empty. We could convert it you know. The plumbing is there. We could revamp a little. It would be a lovely place for her to stay. Gary smiled and nodded.

We don’t even have to charge her. Chad nodded.

We could offer it to her you know. How are your studies going?

    On track. Chad got up.

Come. Let’s take a drive down to the hardware. See what they have to offer.

    Why Dad?

Gary I don’t know. Gary smiled and nodded. He watched Chad as he walked out and smiled.

Chad drove to the hardware and they both got out. They looked at everything. They looked at the showers.

Gary she will need a bath. We could do this easily. We could put the bath against the wall. Then to the left we could put the shower. A proper shower with a shower door. And a proper bath. With a small basin. The toilet is already there. Gary nodded.

Dad. Have you got the cash? Chad nodded.

Should we? Gary nodded. They loaded everything they needed for the bathroom.

They walked over to the kitchen items.

Dad I think one of those snazzy two plate stoves. And a little oven. And maybe a microwave? Chad grinned and nodded.

Let’s get the cupboards. One for under the basin. And we can get a cheap set of kitchen sinks. And another cupboard for the top. Gary nodded. They chose the two cupboards and the basin. Gary smiled and nodded.

She will like this. Chad nodded. He looked at the tap fittings and was quiet for a while. Gary looked at him.

Dad? Chad smiled and looked up.

I like these taps. Gary smiled and nodded.

Chad arranged for the delivery. It was quiet and the hardware could do the delivery straight away.

Paint! Gary roared with laughter. They walked back in to the hardware and chose a soft peach shade. They bought the paint brushes and paint trays and walked out. Gary chuckled and looked at Chad.

This is going to be quite a project. Chad nodded.

But worth it in the end. Gary nodded. They drove straight home. The delivery men pulled up and everything was carried through to the storage room. One of the gents walked around.

This place is huge! Chad smiled and nodded.

Going to convert it in to a bachelor pad.

I wouldn’t mind a place like this. Chad chuckled and nodded.

Chad and Gary soon stood in the room on their own.

    Where to start Dad.
