About this ebook

Joe Davis has spent the last four years of his life behind a scope as a sniper for the Detroit PD's SWAT Team.

A fateful call sends Joe and his team deep into the Detroit Ghetto; and reminds him that there is more to life than what's on the other end of his gun.

The media swarmed around us like hornets. Today was a big day for them. Pieces of meat for them to fly around and gobble up, like the maggots they were.

Damn parasites, I whispered to myself.

Pete patted me on the shoulder. I turned around to look at him. Ready? He asked me.

    Yeah. You?

Always. Go kick some ass, tier. Pete always called me ‘tier.’ His parents were from Germany, and he claimed that tier was the German word for beast or animal. I never quite knew if that was true or not. Nonetheless, it was his nickname for me. Just something that he started back when we were in the Marines together. Whatever. Pete was a good guy. The only person I ever trusted, outside of Claudette. He knew me just as well as she did; probably better than I knew myself. He always checked in with me before we went to court. He knew I hated it, so he’d always try to pep me up before I had to go in.

I’d much prefer if I didn’t have to kick ass at all. At least not in this setting.

I know. Pete replied. You’ll do fine. Just a stupid formality.

    Yep. I answered.

We looked at each other, and in perfect unison, shouted hoo rah! to each other. I smiled at Pete, turned and walked into the courtroom.

As usual, I walked up to the witness stand and swore on the tiny book the court system held so dear. I looked over at the prosecutor. I didn’t recognize him, but he was an ugly runt of a man.

I turned my attention away from the little grease ball and focused on the defense lawyer who approached me.

Please state your name and occupation for the record.
