About this ebook

A complete set of plans to build a normal size upright Bass fiddle. This bass has the tone and volume that would match many commercial upright bass fiddles. At current prices this bass can be built for about $100. The bass could be coompleted in one weekend (not including staining and finish coat). The plans include detailed step by step instruction including many drawings and photos.

    Materials required

I would like to start with a disclaimer. I am NOT a Luthier (a stringed instrument professional). Everything I know about Bass fiddles I found on the internet. All the specification, theories, design considerations, and parts placements were determined by internet info and trial and error. I do not know if this design and theory is consistent with industry standards but I can tell you that this design works.

There is a complete list of the materials required at the end of this manual. We’ll start with the frame for the main body as shown below.

    Main Frame

The frame dimensions are shown below.

Each of the frame parts are identified with a letter. The top and bottom frame parts are identical so only the top parts are identified. Parts A, B, and C all have 22.5 angle cuts on each end as shown below.

Cut all the parts for the top and bottom before you assemble to insure equal size all the way around. Standard 2 x 2 pine (actual 1.5 x 1.5) is used for all the top and bottom frame parts.

Since the end of each frame
