Back in 2000, when my older son Brock was in grade eight at A. Lorne Cassidy School in Stittsville, Ontario, he was fortunate to have a wonderful teacher by the name of Mrs. Karen Deurloo. I approached Mrs. Deurloo with the idea that it would be valuable and instructive to hear from grade eight students, as they began their teen years, on various topics including money, investments and building wealth (to name a few). These questions, which formed the titles of the book chapters, were possible thanks to Mrs. Deurloo, who allowed access to her two classes. She was encouraging in her support for this project aimed at building teen financial and investment literacy. Mrs. Deurloo offered editorial guidance as well, which was most appreciated.
I’d like to thank Gail Baird of Creative Bound Inc. who provided editorial guidance.
Sid Tafler’s editorial and marketing advice and support has been invaluable.
Sons Brock, Ian and their friends, Brent Boschman and Mark Sullivan were all very helpful in their role as consultants for the book, addressing size, shape and cover content which proved most helpful. Ian advised me on the computer work associated with preparing the text for publication. I am grateful to these individuals for their important assistance.
I want to thank Steve McLean for his feedback and advice regarding applications for this book project.
The support of my wife Mary Jane and sons Brock and Ian made this book possible. It is dedicated to Brock, Ian and their fellow classmates who are living through their teen years, a special phase of their lives that they will remember fondly.
