Designing Your Space
The smarter you are about the layout of your physical premises the more reductions in cost that you can create. Careful and clever design can also increase income. We discuss the details of setting up your small or home office in Book 5: Setting Up Shop and Book 6: Choosing Technology, but we want to point out some of the guiding principles of designing your space for retail, wholesale, and manufacturing enterprises here.
Facility layout and design is an important component of a business's overall operations, both in terms of maximizing merchandising, customer service, or production processes and meeting employee needs and desires. A typical definition of facility layout
says something like the physical arrangement of machines, personnel, raw materials, and finished goods needed for storage, production or assembly and shipping and receiving a businesses products or services.
Such definitions are heavily weighted toward distribution and manufacturing facilities and retail
