About this ebook

Gerard Beirne’s last collection of poems (which won second prize in the Patrick Kavanagh Award), Digging My Own Grave, rooted themselves in the landscape exploring the inherent tensions between spirituality and physicality. A Man in Diapers continues this vast exploration but roots itself this time in fatherhood – what it means to be a father of children in a physically demanding world. With humour and sincerity he imagines also the burden of being the Son of God in an all too human existence. Beirne’s vision is both powerful and unique leading readers on a profound and richly rewarding journey.

Nothing else I read in 2003 began with a better opening sentence. "Everything started to go wrong the day we dragged the Eskimo up in the net off Malin Head." ...Wonderful clear prose and sensitive observation in a tough environment make this an outstanding debut work, scandalously ignored by this year's Man Booker judges." - Graham Ball (Literary Editor of the Daily Express). Poet - Digging My Own Grave (Dedalus Press) – earlier version won second place in the prestigious Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award. if it’s words you’re after... a CD of selected poems was released in 2005.
