About this ebook
In colleges and universities today around the world students are living and working toward a hopeless situation many think. They realize that the markets are flooded with people and that there are fewer and fewer jobs that are good all the time it seems. Technology is growing and changing so fast that by the time they have finished four years of school the technology they have studied will be no longer useful to them. It will be the same in colleges all over the world.
All over the world countries are beginning to mandate the study of English. Through out the European countries English is taught to more than 90% of all students. In China, as of 2010, English as a second language has been mandated for study from Kindergarten up. Countries such as Vietnam mandated the study of English from 3rd grade and up. Other countries around the world are mandating the study of a second language and usually the students/families are choosing English. English will be spoken around the world on an ever greater scale because of it’s use in the market place.
I have been teaching now in China for 5 years. These speeches you are reading here were just assignments. These students were to give a 1.5 minute speech. Then they were to send it in for correction before giving the speech in class. They were to speak on the most important thing that they learned in the class. They only had 7 to 9 days and two 45 minute classes with me in the one semester here at university in China.
The only information here is what they have given as to the classes they took and what they learned. This is indeed a very candid look at what these students are thinking. I am publishing the corrected forms as to make it easier for the readers.
These students are Freshmen students and have just come from High School. This is the second semester. The have had their first taste of college life and being, for some of them very far from home. As I said earlier, I only taught them 7 to 9 days and on those days, two 45 minute lessons with a 10 minute break in between. For some also I was their first opportunity to have a foreign teacher. For others they have had foreign teachers and some even mention the teacher they had.
For the most part these students are Science/Engineering Majors. Many are very poor at speaking English. So, this class and what I had them doing in class was a great challenge to them. Some were almost upset with me at first as I asked them in every class to perform their English before the rest of the class.
I am publishing this for the sole purpose of showing how we all over the world have similar aspirations and fears and hopes and loves.
Oscar -Oz Benson
Basically I have been a traveling poet and writer for most of my life since about 15 or so. I published my first book of poems entitled 'Who Are You?' in 2002. I wrote a children's book entitled, Brother Bear and I about the same time in 2003. To date I have published also a book on Chongqing as well as one on investing in the stock markets. In the future I will publish a humorous book entitled 'The Mystery of Medicine and How to Escape From It'. I have lived in many places in America, Mexico, Philippines and China. I have found that following the yellow brick road will lead you to the truth. What you do with the truth will change your life. Change is what the earth needs now. No MORE WAR !! Just as Orson Wells said 'war is peace', you always hear this from the US gov. But it is not true. War doesn't bring peace nor safety. War destroys those who would maintain their freedoms mostly. We have allowed the International Banking system and others to become too powerful and now we must rethink our existence in order to safeguard the future. We must vote with our money and our purchases. It has come to me as I have traveled that there is and has always been more than enough of every thing on this earth for all of us. I have walked the deserts of North America and the Washington Rain Forrest as well. I have gone down the Amazon in South America by boat and walked in its midst. I have visited the most crowded cities of the world, Mexico City, Mexico and Chongqing China. We all over the world in every school have been denied even the knowledge of how much there is and how we can protect it. There is a light which was produced by Edison and is still burning now over 100 years. When we build things that last such as this then our resources too will last and our earth will sustain its health and balance. There is renewable energy that can be produced in each and every home that is clean and only has the initial cost of construction. This was released world wide by a group called HopeGirl on project Avalon Forum. This business of letting the corporations run governments and politicians with their greedy ways for profit and only offering us outdated technologies in cars and energy only will eventually destroy our green and blue world. We need to all band together demanding change, seeking and teaching the ways to love our earth and care for it and for sure we need to take the care of it out of the hands of the monopolies that are indeed trying to destroy her. We no longer should allow them to harm her and go unpunished. People are not evil but monopolies run by evil profiteers are. I have attained a variety of experiences over the years. I began to work at about 9 years of age working with my brother in our family tomato selling business and then did many other things over the years. I have owned my own construction firm and done well in sales at times and marketing of many different products. I have been a licensed insurance producer and stock vendor. I served both in the Navy and National Guard. Over the last 20+ years I have studied nutrition and history extensively. I did special studies in religions and politics as well as economics. Not only have I studied these things but have also put lots of these studies to practical uses as well. Presently I am a professor of English in Chongqing University in China. I enjoy providing healthy foods to my family and friends and helping others to find a healthy way of life in counseling. Please don't hesitate to leave me a note on my website or drop me a line if you would like to discuss what I have put into my books. You my readers are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Please post a review of what you read. I appreciate it greatly. Oscar -Oz Benson

A Candid Look Inside the Minds of Chinese University Freshmen - Oscar -Oz Benson
Introduction
All of the speeches here are arranged and presented anonymously. The English or Pin Yin names are only here as a possible named of the original writer.
This book holds some speeches that were given by freshmen students in a university in China.
These students are to the date of publishing still studying in their sophomore year. They are not English majors. They are mostly majors of Math, Science and Engineering.
All over the world countries are beginning to mandate the study of English. Throughout the European countries English is taught to more than 90% of all students. In China, as of 2010, English as a second language has been mandated for study from Kindergarten up.

We all over the world are all people very much like these young people here.
I hope you enjoy this wonderful trip candidly through the Chinese Freshmen’s minds here on these pages.

What I learned from Oscar’s lessons:
The first thing I experienced in the start of the six weeks is freedom. We can just say what we want to say, we can think in the way we like. And we also obtain power to face difficulties from our teacher’s stories. It’s not the family we are born in but the effort we make that determines our success.
Besides this, the most important result for me is the courage to stand here and express myself. In the past I was always afraid to see so many eyes focused on me, especially when I spoke English. But in this class I have to pluck up the courage to say something in public for myself. Now I so appreciate it.
In addition, I still remember that don’t believe what you heard and just believe what you see (Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear). I still remember that Oscar likes Qu Yuan very much, and as a Chinese I have less knowledge than him about Chinese culture. I feel so sorry and I will try my best to learn about this. I still remember I learned to defend rights, to achieve dreams, to be valuable to others and so on. In a word, someday in the future when I look back on these lessons spent with Oscar, I will always be grateful. Thank you for all your efforts.

What is the most important thing I learned?
What the most important thing I learned in your class is to be brave to speak English.
As a Chinese girl, I used to be too shy to communicate with others. At school, I can write English well but I can’t speak it well. My teacher in my high school said that my
