About this ebook

Violet Winters once had it all but lost it when her husband was murdered by a criminal madman. During a cold winter night Violet has to leave her warm bed to tell her neighbor to turn the music down. And that’s when she meets sinister, scarred, scarily attractive security specialist, Joe Callahan.

She wants to deny it, but Violet can’t beat back the hunger she feels for Joe so she gives in again and again. Feeling it himself, Joe feeds Vi’s hunger, breaking his own rules to keep her in his bed.

Even though Violet had only one man in her life, she’s sure Joe is giving her the signals and Vi decides she’s ready to take a second chance at life and, maybe, love. But Violet doesn’t know the dark secrets in Joe’s past, secrets so soul-wrenching, they’ve drained him dry. With nothing left to give, Joe’s determined to live his life alone and he breaks Violet’s heart.

Crushed by Joe’s betrayal, Violet comes to terms with the fact that, no matter what signals he gave, Joe was not theirs to win. But Violet’s husband’s murderer is obsessed with her and heartbreak again haunts the door of the Winters home. When it does Joe is forced to face the knowledge that he can’t fight Violet’s pull, she’s under his skin and filled him full to bursting.

Joe needs to win her back and put his life on the line to keep Violet safe. But, having had it all once, can Violet endure losing Joe?

Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Read/Listened for Fun (Kindle/Audible)Overall Rating: 3.50Story Rating: 3.50Character Rating: 3.50Audio Rating: 1.50 (not part of the overall rating)Read It Rate It Thoughts: Freaking love triangles--I hate them and At Peace was a perfect example of why: it kept me from falling in love with Joe and quite frankly Mike was the better guy (not for her--I get that but overall). Even after I read Mike's story (yep already through the entire Burg)--I was still pissed that the whole Violet/Mike thing was brought up. So while after that last book I loved Joe/Violet together, I didn't fall in love with them during their book.Audio ThoughtsNarrated By Olivia Porter / Length: 23 hrs and 9 minsThe narrator changed from the first book and this one was slightly better (as in didn't make me want to chunk my phone across the room) but it was still bad. The narrator changes again in the next one I am really hoping it is better as I get through audiobooks faster cause I can listen while doing other things. Skip the audio on this one--it just wasn't worth it.Part of my Read It, Rate It, File It, DONE! Reviews

This book had too many editing issues for me. Names were wrong. I also didn't like Cal calling Vi buddy. It was just weird. Plus if you've read one Kristen Ashley story, you've read them all. Same alpha male every single time. Almost same female every time. Ms. Ashley is a one stop shop. She can't write anything else. Good thing I didn't pay full price for this series. I got them on sale.

I really liked Joe "Cal", Violet "Vi" was all right but a little hard to believe. Everyone else in this book is affected by their mothers whether they were there or died but Violet with the worst mother of all seems little affected; she just keeps away from her. Like the 17 years she spent living with her had no residual effect.

And I would love to read more about what happens with Benny and Frankie once Benny gets back to the hospital.

Overall, another great Kristen Ashley book!

So, while I enjoyed this one Cal was a little more over the top with his controlling attitude and it just didn't sit well with me. What was kinda cute in Motorcycle man, felt a little more oppressive in this book. Enjoyable, but not my favorite from this author.

If you have the tenacity to finish this clunker, more power to you. You'll get an enjoyable read. I won't lie about that. I think the story could have been great. I liked the characters. The story. The kids. There is A LOT to love about this book. It's different and feels fresh to not have the heroine angst and angst OMG, I like someone other than my husband. It's a nice change. The hero had nice crunch and isn't perfect.

But, fuck me if I'm going to stick around for another 75 percent of this damn thing when they're already in love. The characters have already begun to arc and the bad guy hasn't been mentioned in a while. So, to appease my mind I've skipped to the last few pages. They end up together.

    That's it. I'm done.

    Another hit for Kristen Ashley!

The chemistry between Joe and Vi was CRAZY good and sexy and their scenes together were awesomelly HOT. Since I read this one right after I finished For You, I noticed that in this series the characters are a lot more flawed and their problems a lot more difficult to deal with than we normally see on Kristen's novels.

Another constant with her books are the secondary characters. You can't just help yourself and fall in love with everybody and hate all the b**** in the story. Anyone out there who DOESN'T want to kill Susie or Tina?! PLEASE! Totally recommend this to everyone who wants to have an emotional ride and to be surprised that you spend half the book crying for the characters. Unbelievable!

Every character speaks as if they are 14 year old thugs. I think the author was going for a "godfather " style, however the end result is a very choppy read. I found it difficult to fall into the story. Which is unfortunate as there is a decent story here. As this is the first I've read by this author I will blame it on the editors. Hopefully the next book will be better.

Liked the story because it had the necessary drama to catch me but not over the top to exasperate me.

I have read many of Ashley's books. The Burg series is my favorite, followed by the rock chicks. I keep re-reading most of the books in this series.

Have I said lately how much I LOVE KA ??? She truly is one amazing damn writer and I will continue to say that every time I read one of her books or talk to her in posts ...

I LOVED Me some Peace , what an awesome damn Book . Hot, steamy, mystery, love, heartache, it had it all and then some .

Joe, Alpha Male , hot, sexy , built, protective . Once again one of KA's men has it ALL wrapped up inside of him . I loved Joe , I disliked Joe, I wanted Joe , lol ... He had it all and then some . he was arrogant, he was pushy, he was , he was protective, he was bossy .. he had it .. and I loved him in the end .

Vi , sweet Violet, been through hell and back losing her cop husband, having a psycho mob dude after her wanting her , had 2 teenage daughters to raise , and she had it tough . She was awesome in Peace I loved her , although I did not like her doing her doings with Mike , I guess in the end it all worked out for the best and it brought Joe to where he needed to be with being full of her and the girls .

    What an awesome Book .......

Benny’s brother died in a hail of bullets several years ago, but his memory is still holds a bitterness in Benny’s heart. Benny and his family hold his former girlfriend, Francesca Concetti responsible for his death. For years she’s walked around with this on her conscience, even though she had nothing to do with her former flame’s demise. Regardless though, she always felt tied with Benny’s family. When unforeseen events force Frankie back into the lives of Benny’s family, Benny and his family find themselves realizing things aren’t always what they seem and forgiveness is long overdue. We the readers first meet Frankie and Benny in one of my favorite Ashley novels, At Peace. Taking us back to Chicago, Kristen Ashley writes an absolutely unputdownable romance between these two hardheaded, irresistible characters. Even while spending a majority of the novel living in different cities, Ashley is able to keep the sexual tension at a premium. Full of sexy times, with great characters, fantastic secondaries, and a fast paced but sweet story, this is classic Ashley at her finest. While reading the other books in the series is helpful, its not necessary. Another winner and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Did not handle grief issues with heroine with any kind of accuracy. Teens were cute, but unrealistically perfect. Usually love her books, but this one fell short for me.

I'm going to start by saying that the 'hero' was a real pain in this at first. I actually found myself rooting for the other guy (I didn't get the feeling that Joe/Cal deserved to get the girl after all the s*** he put her through).

Violet deserved to be happy but I just didn't feel that Joe earned her love. They were all hot and heavy and then all of a sudden it was going to be permanent. I enjoyed it...but I didn't enjoy it.

Needs editing. The story was all over the place and the sentence structure was frequently confusing.
