    Introduction

Welcome, this book is a departure from our usual style of writing. We became interested in Mary Magdalene through several books, websites and television programs that we saw, in a short period of time and decided it would be an interesting topic for a book. Seeing Jesus Christ’s life from a different feminine perspective has been an interesting challenge.

Although many people want to see Jesus’ life, as being almost angelic in nature, he did work as a carpenter in a small town, up until the age of thirty. He was a physical man who later became a spiritual being, but we are also told that he kept the Jewish law, which meant that he was expected to marry. Although the New Testament never says that he did marry, it also never says that he didn’t!

Recent archeological finds have discovered the Gospel of Philip, one of his disciples who wrote mainly about how marriage is similar to God’s love and guidance of us. A recent find is now called the Gospel of Mary, a 5th Century codex on papyrus; tells of Jesus meeting Mary Magdalene after his death and of her running and telling the disciples about it. They spurn her story, because she is just a woman. But later we are told that Jesus loved her best and often kissed her on the…?... She is also mentioned as his consort.

We believe that later historians and monks who were prejudiced against women turned Mary Magdalene into a prostitute and tried to defame her. The confusion of names, of so many ‘Marys’ in the Bible makes this very simple! Jesus’ mother was Mary, his sister was Mary; we have Martha and Mary and Mary Magdalene! To distinguish our Mary from these others, we have called her Mary Magdalena.

In writing this book, we give credit to several sources - the Old and New Testaments, Deepak Chopra’s book Jesus, the Gospel of Philip and the Gospel of Mary, Wikipedia and on-line Desert Sun. We believe that we channelled much of the other material.

We have channelled higher spirits for over twenty-five years and they have always enriched our lives with their higher wisdom! We hope that you will read this book with an open mind and heart.

We offer our story with much Love and Light.

    Chapter One - Mary Magdalena

My name is Mary Magdalena and I was born in Nazareth, in the month of Tishrei, ‘the season of our joy’, during the reign of King Herod; the year that the bright comet slowly passed overhead.

My parents Joab and Esther Magdalena had been married over ten years and they feared they were barren, when my mother found out she was pregnant with me; so my birth brought great joy to them both.

Mother came from Magdala near the Sea of Galilee and she liked the sound of the name and called me Mary after her mother and Magdalena after her home town. My father Joab was a Nazarene Jew.

Two years after my birth, King Herod sent out his Roman soldiers to slaughter new born male babies throughout the kingdom and so, my parents were doubly glad of my female gender! This ‘slaughter of the innocents’ sent shock waves throughout the Jewish population and showed us the violence and absolute power of the corrupt Romans and their allies!

My sister Deborah was born three years after my birth and I helped my loving mother to raise her, in a warm-hearted and gentle household that consisted of my parents, us two girls, my grandmother Sarah and my Uncle Joshua.

My father having no sons, chose to educate Deborah and myself and our Uncle Joshua who was a scholarly man, taught us to write and read Aramaic and Greek and he also had us study astrology, basic mathematics and history. He was a kind, often forgetful teacher, who much preferred to sit with the elders and rabbis at the temple and discuss politics, than he did teaching two young, restless girls to learn their letters.

Deborah who was dark-curled, petite and pretty, hated her lessons and would often, deliberately try to distract our Uncle Joshua, by asking irrelevant questions that would have him pondering on an answer for over half an hour. Then, he would give us a long story about ancient kings, how the stars were formed or why we, the Jews lived under our oppressive Roman conquerors.

She would wink naughtily at me, as our uncle became distracted and we would both, sit idly and listen to his tales rather than practise our writing. Deborah was a true girlish child who loved jewellery and fine materials, small pets and dreaming of one day, when she would marry a handsome, young husband.

She wound the men of the household around her little fingers and could manifest favours with a pout of her pink lips or a flash of her brown eyes. She was thoroughly spoilt, but we all loved her! I often took the blame for her childish pranks and also, suffered the punishments. Then she would hug me and sigh, repentant she might be, but she wasn’t going to take the blame for her naughtiness! As the baby, she was spoilt and cosseted and felt she deserved this.

I on the other hand, was tall for a girl with straight dark hair, a longish face and dark brown eyes. I did not possess Deborah’s prettiness or light manner, but my mother always told me that ‘I was a special type of beauty that was born under a lucky celestial sign, the comet and that I would have a very interesting and exciting life!’ A wise man from Egypt had told her so, not long after I was born and she remembered the astrological reading, to this day.

My father Joab was a merchant and he sold silks, woollen cloth, linen and plain cloth for the simple garments that we all wore, in the heat of the Palestinian summers and the cool of the winter. Deborah loved the pretty silk fabrics that came from distant Cathay, but they
