    Things started out just like they always had. The sun came up and the animals were ready to be fed. There was a slight shift in the weather, though, a wind blew in from the east, and for this time of year it was not to be expected. Amir stumbled out of bed. He mumbled to himself about the quick coming of daylight while pulling on his sandals to head out to the temple.

    Amir! His wife called out to him. Where are you? You must get to the temple the Pharisees will be looking for you if you are not there on time.

    Amir walked into the adjoining room that lead to the outside and said, I’m on my way; I will get there on time.

    You better. Or else we will all have to pay.

    I don’t understand why we let them control our lives.

    Amir, don’t say things like that! You know the Pharisees are keepers of the Law; they are the ones who will help us reach God.
