Atlantis and the Merpeople
Chapter 1
Ross Meets the Merpeople of Atlantis
Ross and Dallas slumped on the beach carefully creating a super duper sandcastle. I’m melting like an ice cream!
groaned Dallas. Then let’s take a swim,
Ross eagerly replied.
They plunged into the sea for a refreshing swim, the summer sun blazing down their backs. Several ooohs
and aahhhs
later, Dallas hesitantly climbed out, running towards his patient parents. But Ross was having the time of his life, enthusiastically splashing in the water, underneath the blue skies.
While Ross was enjoying the water, big waves were building up. Suddenly a huge wave hit him, folding him under the water like a sandwich. He gasped and shrieking like a lunatic, yelled at the people on the beach to help him. No one heard him and he slowly started sinking like a ship struck by lightning. He pressed his eyes shut and prepared for the worst to come but several minutes later when he opened his eyes, he had some great surprises in store for him.
First, he was at the bottom of the ocean and he could breathe as if fresh air was surrounding him. Second, he could see clearly. There were no blurry visions, only a clear look at what lay around him. The third surprise was the amazing scene that met his eyes.
Usually we imagine underwater scenes to be full of pink coral, pretty flowers and sparkling bubbles, but this was completely different. There were no bright jewels, just piles of ashes everywhere. There were no flowers, just blackened stones here and there. There were no sparkling bubbles, only a weird murky feeling to the water as if smoke had somehow mixed in with the water.
Strangest of all there were people around Ross. These people had fishlike tails and he later found out they were called, Merpeople
. These human like creatures were flapping their tails with sad expressions on their faces. Ross couldn’t help but feel sorry for these Merpeople who were obviously the citizens of this destroyed underwater city.
He was speechless and confused. Thoughts like, Where am I? How did I get here? What is this place? Is this a dream?
were running through his mind. Ross was beginning to panic. He knew he had to get home.
Suddenly a hush fell over all the Merpeople that were gathered in that particular street
of the ruined city. Ross held his breath. He had no idea what was going to happen but he was about to find out.
Chapter 2
The King of the Merpeople
From out of nowhere, a large muscular Merman appeared. His face was not yet visible through the smoky water but as he came closer, the wrinkles on his face and his long white beard came into Ross’s site. He had big sea-green eyes with a matching tail and his hair was completely white like his
