To everyone who knows her, Annalise Decker is a model wife and mother. She’s a permanent member of the PTA, never misses her kids’ sporting events, and is constantly campaigning for her husband’s mayoral race.

No one knows that Annalise was once Deidre O’Reilly, a troubled young woman whose testimony put a dangerous criminal behind bars. Relocated through the Witness Security Program to the sleepy town of Deep Haven, Deidre got a new identity and a fresh start, which began when she fell in love with local real estate agent Nathan Decker. Twenty years later, Annalise couldn’t be more unprepared for her past to catch up with her. When Agent Frank Harrison arrives with news that the man she testified against is out on bail and out for revenge, Annalise is forced to face the consequences of her secrets. Will she run again, or will she finally find the grace to trust those she loves most with both her past and her future?

I love reading books by this author but I have to admit that this book wasn't my favorite. It is a good book and definitely worth reading but it isn't one that I would pick up on my own and just start reading. You find out shortly into the book that Annalise the main character in the book is in the witness protection program and that her husband who doesn't know about her past is running for mayor. The first thing that I thought when I found out all this is that who ever she is hiding from is going to find her and she is either going to have to run or face him. The writing is great and her writing does keep you interested but I couldn't get to into the book because I saw where it was going to go. I am for sure going to read more of her books because like I said she is an amazing writer and I have loved the other books of hers that I have read.

Annalise Decker has her act together. She has great kids, she makes great cookies, she's at every sports game and has been the backbone to her husband's race for mayor in the small town of Deep Haven. With her long blonde hair and fabulous looks, most of the women envy her life, but what the women and even her own husband don't know is that before she moved to Deep Haven twenty years ago, she was a young drugged out teen named Deidre O'Reilly who lived on the streets with her boyfriend and sold drugs for a dangerous drug lord and gang member named Carlos. After being strung out and almost beat to death she is picked up by the police and offered a second chance at life. Having to choose between jail or testifying against her drug pusher, Deidre decides to take the deal, puts Carlos behind bars, changes her appearance and lets police fake her death while being relocated under the Witness Protection Program.Everyday she has built a new life for herself, but everyday she remembers the parents and siblings she had to leave behind, and everyday she lives with the guilt of keeping all of it a secret from her husband and children. She's learned to ignore it most days, but she's jumpy and does things her husband Nathan can't understand. She's just waiting for the day when he stumbles upon the truth and lives with the fear that he will leave her forever once he knows who she was way back when. That fear comes full circle when Frank Harrison, her handler from witness protection, shows up in Deep Haven to drop the news that Carlos made parole and is looking for her. Frank wants to move Annalise quickly, faking her death again to ensure her safety and leaving her family to deal with the crisis. However, Annalise can't handle the thought of leaving her family again, but also can't handle telling them the truth, but when the future leads to an unavoidable meeting with the man sworn to kill her, Nathan, her kids and the town of Deep Haven will be shaken. This was a nail bitter and I loved watching the drama unfold like a visual movie as Annalise had to come to terms with her past life. I loved the way Susan wove the story around the growth of Annalise, as we see her face each emotional milestone, another layer of the story was revealed along with added depth to each of the characters. Seeing the outcome when she finally faced her fear and exposed the truth was a sweet victory. The passion and hope laced heavy handed with an intense mystery scores another win for a fabulous storyteller.

Nathan and Annalise Decker appear to be the perfect couple...he is running for Mayor of Deep Haven, and Annalise doesn't know the word "No". She is know as the Woman who does it all. She has three "perfect" Children, a Loving Husband, and the Mother-In-Law everyone would want...Helen.But? Behind closed doors, things are not always as they appear. Annalise has been keeping a secret that even her husband of twenty years does know. She is not who she says she is...she is in Witness Protection. She was once know as Deidre O'Reilly, who as a young girl made very bad decisions.Deidra defied her parents and ran away from home, she picked up with a drug dealer. In the end the king pin thought he had killed her. She ends up testifying against him, and he threatens he will kill her...either himself or through his connections. She is put in the Northern Minnesota Town she now lives in and a fulfilling life with the typical ups and downs that parents experience. All that is put into jeopardy when "Uncle" Frank arrives to tell her that Garcia is out of jail.Hard to imagine..what will she do? Should she leave and hope her family will be ok without her? Should they all leave, and the town think them dead? What about Helen? What a ride we begin, and can't put the book down until we know what is going to happen. Who is going to survive? Will things ever be the same?Love that there is an epilogue in the book!Enjoy your return visit to Deep Haven, there is even a few comments about the people we met in previous books!I received this book from Litfuse Publicity Book Tours, and the Publisher Tyndale, and was not required to give a positive review.

A well-told and interesting story line to this book. Annalise Decker is a wife and mother, who seems to have it all together in the small town of Deep Haven. She has a husband, Nathan who loves her and is running for mayor, and three great kids. But what no one knows, not even her family, is that she came to Deep Haven 20 years ago, under the Witness Protection Program, after testifying and putting a hardened criminal in jail. Annalise is unprepared for her past to catch up with her, when Agent Frank Harrison arrives with news that the man she testified against is out of jail and out for revenge. Now she is forced to either run again, or tell her secret. Will she run again, or will she finally reveal the truth and trust those she loves most with both her past and her future?I came to realize that everyone in this story seemed to have secrets, and no one was being completely honest with those they loved. I liked what the author wrote as a note at the end of her book: "While we think that secrets protect our loved ones, secrets are a cancer, and instead of bringing peace, they eat away at our security. Instead of being able to forget the secrets, the longer we keep them, the more they invade our everyday thinking. They keep us from believing that we deserve a happy ending. They keep us from accepting the grace that God longs to give us."
