It is what it is. And for what it is, it isn’t bad. I mean, the name Falcon is silly, and his selflessly convincing her that in order to be a good mother, she needed to explore her sexuality so she could get over her past trauma was RIDICULOUS. Her agreeing was ridiculous. His offering was...ridiculous. There is no scenario where that could be helpful, unless they fall in love and stay together. How awkward to eventually have the dude (or her) move on, then have to tell the new partner “oh, yeah...I had a sexual relationship with my kid’s uncle, but, you know, it was ‘therapeutic’. I mean, yeah, we still live in the same house, but it’s fiiiiiinnnneee.”? That would make for awkward family holidays.

I bumped it up to four stars from the three I was tempted to give for the purpose of giving props to Penny Jordan. I remember PJ romances from the 80’s and 90’s. I remember the rapey, slut-shaming, abusive “heroes” of this author’s past. And I am THRILLED that she has moved beyond that in this book to deliver a hero who is actually...well...a hero. Extra props that her three bad guys of the book literally display (separately) the very characteristics she used to imbue the romantic lead with. Yay for change!

Penny was always a fantastic writer but unfortunately this book didn't work for me. The dramas in the heroine's life were terrible and compelling but the hero's ways of resolving them (at least the way it was written) were just as unethical as what she had already been through. Definitely not enough page time to resolve them. It felt as though that after the meet-cute - the intense emotion disappeared and cardboard angst was tacked in to replace it.
