About this ebook

Anthony Strollo, also known as Tony Bender and Tough Tony, was a Mafia powerhouse in the Genovese crime family for several decades. His brothers, Dominic and Emillio, were also members of the syndicate. Strollo's primary territory included the New Jersey docks and the Greenwich Village area of lower Manhattan, New York City. Strollo inherited a large amount of power after the careers of many of his mob associates were ended by Federal and U.S. Senate investigations, i.e. the Kefauver Committee and others. My ebook looks at his versatility. Strollo was involved with labor rackets, narcotics, fake lotteries and numbers running, among his other criminal activities.

    Genovese Racket Boss

    Robert Grey Reynolds Jr.

    Smashwords Edition 2014

Anthony (Tony Bender) Strollo (1899-1962) became a missing person in April 1962. Federal authorities who were probing Cosa Nostra actions in the New York/New Jersey area, began an extensive search for the New Jersey waterfront kingpin.

Vincent James Jimmy Squillante (June 7, 1919-September 23, 1960), the boss of the private garbage industry in New York City, was also missing. A member of the Gambino crime family, Squillante disappeared from his home in September 1960. Figure 1 Vincent Squillante

The probe by authorities also encompassed the mysterious disappearances of the wives and girlfriends of Mafia figures.

The skeletal remains of two murdered gangsters were unearthed on a central New Jersey chicken farm on Friday, March 24, 1967. About twenty FBI agents and a bulldozer were present in Jackson Township, NJ. A gangland burial ground was found there.

The excavation concluded a two-year search for Angelo Sonnessa of Nutley, NJ and Kenneth Later of New York. Both men had disappeared mysteriously. FBI officials anticipated that more bodies would be found during the gruesome search.

Sonnessa’s remains were pieced together with wire that bound bones that had formerly been his ankles. The remains were uncovered in a small tunnel that had once been a part of a moonshine business. Angelo Sonnessa had been missing since September 1961. A plastic bag had been placed over his head and neck.
