    Trevor shares about growing up with autism. He talks about his struggles in junior high school and shares information that can help parents better help their autistic child today. Trevor shares how his grades began to slip in middle school and talks about losing his focus because of all of the social stuff that was happening around him that he could not be a part of. Social skills are important.

    Sadly our society does not think that social skills are as important because neurotypical people do not live with a social skills deficit and it is extremely challenging for them to understand and relate to those of us with autism.

    Trevor shares how he did not know how to handle his desire to interact with girls. He share how he became jealous because other guys knew how to talk to girls and get girlfriends and he did not. He also admits that he gave up on his school work and did not care what his grades are. His only goal was to figure out how to socialize and be more like the other kids in junior high school.

    Trevor gives the reader insight that is hard to gain from reading most books. He provides personal experience and understanding to provide the reader with tools to help their children. Here is an excerpt from "Life with Autism and Mental Illness."

    "I did not much care for girls when I was in elementary school. I thought of them like I thought about the other boys because they were all the same to me. By the time junior high school came along the girls started looking differently and all of their curves were starting to develop and I began to notice for the first-time that there was a lot of beauty in girls and I really admired it."
