    I have written this book on three levels: Firstly, on a personal level about my professional career in residential childcare and the impact it had upon my life. As a factual story line about children, professionals and events, the Children and professionals are REAL people and these events took place between 1988 and 2008. Finally, I have attempted to give an insight to the theories, concepts and language used in social work, and explains these in ‘every day’ language. This story line will not only help readers to understand the lives of children in residential care but it will also help to explain the theories and concepts I have used in this book.

    These are my own opinions and assessments of events, and to that end it is fair to say that, all assessments are a personal concept, based upon knowledge, beliefs and value systems
    This book will leave you with a cascade of emotions, and doubtless, some people will find this to be a shocking and scary account of events.
