About this ebook

Could you save your dog's life? YES! You could!

Could you relieve your dog's pain and suffering? YES! You could!

All living creatures can become sick or injured. When it happens, and it is your dog, what do you do?
A visit to your veterinarian may well be needed but often it is possible to do a simple diagnosis yourself before deciding.
This book provides an essential guide to checking your dog’s condition when something appears to be wrong or your dog has suffered accident or injury.
It discusses the strategy to adopt, the items you should have ready and when it is right to contact your veterinarian. In emergency situations you can provide an expert evaluation which can help your veterinarian to help your dog; this book will show you how.
Do you know how to quickly and calmly deal with a badly injured dog, a dog going into shock, or a dog which has suddenly become very ill?
Most people don’t!
Let me explain the idea behind my book and why you should listen to me.
My name is David "Jack" Russell and although I don't claim to know everything about dogs, no one does, I do know quite a lot. I have had dogs all my life (I have 5 at present), and I know from experience just what it is like to have to deal with injured dogs or dogs that have very suddenly become ill.
I know the right way to deal with most of these situations, usually because I have found out by trying the wrong way first!
Take advantage of my experience and follow my easy method of preparing for emergencies, you will be able to deal calmly and efficiently with an injured or sick dog.
“You’re going to be all right” doesn’t work with dogs, in fact the more you reassure him the more worried he gets.
You have to reassure your dog in the only way he understands and that is by being calm, in control, and acting as if everything was normal.
If you are doing the “headless chicken dance” your dog will start to mirror that behavior and may panic making things very much worse.
Shock can be as much of a killer in dogs as in humans, learn how to recognize the signs and what to do about it.
You should also remember that quick action not only has the potential to save life and to reduce pain and suffering but it can also save dollars.
If this book provides you with the knowledge to safely postpone the call to the veterinarian from the middle of the night until office hours on even one occasion then your investment will have been returned many times over!
This book cannot perform miracles but it can guarantee that you will be able to look back on the action that you took and know that you could not have done better.

It is all about Preparation, Rehearsal and Confidence.

Imagine calling the fire department to your burning house and they are delayed because they cannot find the hoses or they have mislaid the book of instructions for the new ladders. Of course that cannot happen, they are not only brave they are trained and practiced and that is what makes them effective. With just a little effort you can become a practiced and confident first aid expert.
This book does not ever try to take the place of your veterinarian, if in doubt you should always call him. What it may be able to do is to give you the knowledge and the confidence to know how much you can deal with yourself.
You will also be able to help your veterinarian to help your dog and here is how.
However skilled your veterinarian may be you have one huge advantage over him - you know your dog.
You see your dog every single day.
You know almost by instinct when something is wrong.
Follow the guidelines in this book and you will be able to add some simple measurements to your "gut feeling” about your dog’s condition and you will have a reliable guide to your dog’s health.
And although I hope that you and your dog enjoy good health for a long time I do urge you to prepare and be ready for that emergency
