The Ed Wynn Show
December 8, 1951
OPENING MONOLOGUE
CAMERA HOLDS ON SIGN WHICH READS, ED WYNN’S DEPARTMENT STORE — REMEMBER, YOU HAVE ONLY FOURTEEN SHOPPING DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
. (WOMEN’S VOICES CAN BE HEARD OVER SHOT)
CAMERA PANS DOWN TO CENTER STAGE WHERE SEVERAL WOMEN ARE BUNCHED AROUND A HIGHLY FRUSTRATED MAN DRESSED IN TYPICAL ATTIRE OF A STORE FLOORWALKER. A SIGN ON COUNTER READS, ONE CENT SALE
.
FLOORWALKER
Ladies! Ladies! Please. If Mr. Wynn says there’s going to be a one cent sale, then you’ll have a one cent sale! (CALLS OFF STAGE) Mr. Wynn! Mr. Wynn! Where is Mr. Wynn?
WYNN
(off stage)
I’m coming.
MUSIC: PLAYS WYNN ON WITH JINGLE BELLS
.
WYNN ENTERS ON SLED, PRESUMABLY PULLED BY A TEAM CONSISTING OF A LARGE WOOLY ST. BERNARD AND A VERY SMALL MEXICAN HAIRLESS: THE BIG DOG IN FRONT OF THE SMALL ONE. WYNN IS DRESSED IN A SANTA CLAUS COAT WITH THE BEARD HANGING LOW AROUND HIS NECK AND PARTIALLY TUCKED IN LIKE A MUFFLER.
APPLAUSE
WHEN SLED REACHES ALMOST CENTER STAGE, IT STOPS AND WYNN ALIGHTS FROM IT.
WYNN
(points to small dog)
This one does all the work.
(points to big dog)
He’s the brains.
FLOORWALKER
Mr. Wynn, did you advertise a one cent sale?
WYNN
Certainly.
HE PRODUCES A SKUNK FROM SLED AND HOLDS IT HIGH IN FRONT OF LADIES.
Here you are.
LADIES EXIT, SCREAMING. FLOORWALKER EXITS. WYNN WALKS BACK TO
