About this series
“Angel One, bank left...” The commander ordered and Kelly quickly corrected her position. He had never seen anyone fly at such speed with so much accuracy until the avengers were formed. Kelly made the turn and then flew at a mountain at mach one. “Pull up now Angel One!”
“I’m pulling up NOW!” Kelly answered. She shot a missile into the mountain and went vertical...the flying debris almost caught her...the two jets behind her exploded into one another. “FACE, you cretins...!” They heard her yell and she went back into action. She hurried to catch up with her little brother, who was trying desperately to outrun one of Hawthorne’s tricked out jets. Jamie flew beside her. “I’ve got this one, Jamie, go help Kevin...”
“Copy...” Jamie broke off and watched as Kelly shadowed the jet below her.
“Go vertical, Keith!” She yelled.
“Thanks!” Keith wheezed.
“Keith, use your inhaler!” Kelly told him quickly. So many of the kids that had been born in the disease...were asthmatics.
“Copy...!” He answered as she pulled away and continued the chase.
“CRAP!” Kelly cried as she saw four jets dead on her tail. “Guys, I might need some help here.”
“We’re coming...” The avengers answered in unison.
“Angel One, get out of there! Do not engage! Leave now!” The commander yelled into the com.
“Don’t...think...I have a...choice...Dad...” Kelly’s speech was broken.
“Angel One, Have you been hit?” Jamie yelled as he closed the distance. He saw in horror as two of the planes went down in flames. Kelly was maneuvering and going vertical and coming back from behind and blowing the jets out of the sky. She didn’t answer.
“Kelly! Have you been hit?” He cried again.
They all watched as Kelly went down. She had taken out the last two planes but from somewhere a missile had been lodged from the ground. “NO!” Everyone yelled in unison.
“AVENGERS...return to base now!” David Martin yelled over the uproar. Missiles were flying from every direction and the commander knew if he didn’t get the kids out of there, they would all die. “That is an order! Return to base!” He watched in relief as the planes made the turn and headed back. No one spoke until they were outside of the bunker.

My name is Kelly Adams and my family left its bunker in Tennessee and traveled across the United States to the high mountains in Nevada after a virus spread through the nations in 2010, and then mutated until 2012. My father; David Martin, was prior military and he took us to an abandoned Air Force Base to start over. My brothers and I walked among the infected through hospitals and stores. We faced the worst of humanity. Babies were killed after being experimented on. Teenagers fought in alleys for anything of value—sometimes just because they felt like killing someone. Our father, David Martin, had instilled values in his children and he encouraged us to never lose our humanity. When the mutated virus surfaced again, eighty percent of humanity died. Those that lived were affected. The ones living outside the bunkers became violent. The children and young people that survived were beautiful, but very different. Their hair was almost white—their eyes were a brilliant green. Their skin was a dark olive tone and they were muscle bound and dangerous. There was no regard to human life—not even family. We created an antidote against the biological weapon, but it didn’t work on me. Many who were infected were cured by it though, and our antidote became our defense weapon. The problem was that the virus was spreading faster than we could treat it. We began a different fight and turned the antidote into a gas form to treat many. Still, it was an uphill battle and we had yet to find its source ... Then we found that the Secretary of Defense was using the virus as a biological weapon. He chemically enhanced the military to try to maintain control over the nation. Commander Martin and his “Avenging Angels” begin the uphill battle of finding the healing facilities so they can change the soldiers back to normal human beings. The battle has only begun and the fight is constant.
