Prologue
What the hell now, I am already late,
he screamed aloud, which made her look at him.
Sorry,
she said quietly and picked up his laptop.
Wait, woman where do you think are you going?
he said in an angry voice.
I said sorry,
she replied politely.
Attention my fellow passengers, sorry for the inconvenience; our metro is facing a technical problem. It will be resolved as soon as possible,
an announcement was heard over the public address system, and it was devil’s play, adding fuel to fire.
Look, I am in no mood for jokes. I am here on serious business and I don’t want any girl to ruin it, especially if that girl is you,
he said in an angry voice.
I am also saying that I don’t want to interfere in your business, I am just trying to get somewhere and I am stuck with you,
she said.
It’s not working; it’s all your fault. I shouldn’t have been so ignorant, shouldn’t have lost myself in thoughts, especially about solving a mystery about why I keep on finding you in a dazed state. Now with all this I am late for my meeting and my laptop doesn’t work − all because of you, woman,
he shouted at her.
Chapter 1
I don’t want to marry him Mom, I really don’t like him,
she said to her mom a week before her engagement.
Anu, he is your dad’s choice, you can’t just reject him. Moreover he is the one who always selects matches. He did so for your two elder sisters and now it’s your turn,
her mom said.
But Ma, I don’t even know him,
she said.
At least you have met him. I hadn’t even met your dad before the first night of our marriage,
her mother replied.
But my studies, Ma? I am in the final year and have exams in less than two months. What about my career? And you should ask for my consent before getting me married to some stranger,
she said, her face reddening in anger.
You can carry on after this engagement, and he will let you work. Make your career and wander off wherever you want after marriage, no one will stop you,
her mom said and left.
There was no way out and she knew that something was wrong about it, because every time she saw Nikhil she got bad vibes. She didn’t want to get into trouble, but at the same time she couldn’t defy her parents, especially her dad.
So she let it all happen and hoped for the best. She still feared the worst. Next day she met her friend Sonakshi and told her all this. It’s all in your mind,
her friend said. Nothing will go wrong; let it go. Then you can study for the exams.
How can I study in the middle of all this? This week is the engagement, and next week is the wedding, and then I am going to Delhi for the rest of my life,
Anu said. How can I give exams?
she added.
Talk to him, he is to be your husband,
Sonakshi said to her.
I don’t like the way he looks at me, exploring my body, I feel like I am naked,
she said.
Well, he will do it sooner or later, right?
her friend looked at her with questioning eyes.
Sona, I don’t want him anywhere near me, he gives me creeps. I don’t feel he is the right one, I think my soul mate is someone else and he is out there. I don’t want this wedding. Stop it somehow,
she cried as she held her head in her hands.
Don’t cry, you know your dad doesn’t believe in all this, we can’t do anything, babe. You have to go through this marriage no matter what you think.
Sonakshi said and pulled her into a hug.
2 weeks later...
What are doing tonight, baby,
Aarav asked the girl next to him in his mesmerising voice. Nothing, I think I will get bored as usual,
she said blinking her large eyes.
Will you go out with me tonight?
he asked her out, and she agreed readily.
He had done it again; it was a game for him. Being a stud was another tag to his title, apart from being a great businessman. Aarav Singh Rajput was one of India’s leading businessmen.
Okay baby, I will pick you up after work,
he said as he kissed her hand and left.
You should marry now son, and settle down,
his mom said as he came home that day after work.
Mom I am not interested in all such things, and you know I don’t believe in marriages after what happened between you and dad; I am good with these short flings only,
he said, sitting down beside her.
I also want grandchildren,
his mom said making a sad face.
I will marry, Mom, when I find someone different... someone different, she will be out of the world,
he said dreamily.
You and your weird choices! Go and bring a girl from Mars because you cannot find someone here,
she said getting frustrated as he left for his room.
After getting ready he picked up his date for the night. He didn’t even know her name and he didn’t bother also. It was just another fling which would last for only a day or two. He smiled at her and planned a perfect night for himself. He entered a disco and met a few of his friends there. He introduced her to them. He left her to order drinks.
Anushka was sitting alone on the couch with loud music hurting her ears. And her dress was barely covering her; she was feeling uncomfortable in the drunken crowd where nearly every guy was drooling over her. She shouldn’t have come here; this is not where she belonged. She shouldn’t have listened to Nikhil. She was apprehensive where this was going to end. Nikhil had already made her drink some weird tasting stuff she didn’t know about and now she was unable to control herself.
He saw her there – a perfect girl he would like to be with – with her baby face, childlike innocent eyes, pink full lips and
a body more beautiful than that of the most beautiful model. He had an instant urge to hold her. He sensed something wrong; she was in a drunken state,
