About this ebook
It has been said that while a magician often is an expert at “sleight of hand” a mentalist is an expert of “sleight of mind”. While this is something the mentalist may want his audience to believe – the reality is quite different. Magic and mentalism – like many things in life is about perception. Often the mentalist uses various sleight of hand techniques to achieve his ends and indeed some mentalists – including the author were magicians for many years before they took up mentalism.
In my publication In Mind: Lessons in Mindreading and Mentalism I said in the introduction -" Mentalism or Mind Reading is the most exciting performing art. Once you dazzle your friends, family and acquaintances with a series of devastating seemingly psychic feats – they will forever hound you until you agree to give an encore. Wherever you go you will be pursued, pested and plagued by people who yearn to see you perform. It will change your life forever". This has been my experience my whole adult life. It is a wonderful thing.
A mentalist is a magician of the mind. And like a good magician he/she creates a sense of wonder, amazement and awe in an audience. However despite what has been said - it has less to do with “moves” and “sleights” and more to do with relationship – the relationship between the performer and the audience where magic is made, astonishment ensues and time stops,
I have said before that there is a distinction between magic and mentalism – and although they achieve similar ends (ie awe and astonishment), while the magician appears to do the impossible – the mentalist does the very unlikely – the extremely unlikely. For this reason mentalism appears more real than traditional magic. People believe there is more than mere trickery going on. They go away seeing your performance as something no one could do by “magic tricks”.
Like in my previous publications How to be a Mentalist, How to be a Mentalist II, How to be a Mentalist III (Mentalism with Playing Cards) How to be a Mentalist IV: Impromptu Mindreading, In Mind, Time Flies, McCoy’s Miracles: World Class Card Magic. McCoy’s Miracles II and McCoy’s Miracles III, I also offer here something rather unique and of supreme value to the student. Every routine has a video link to both performances and explanations. There are also links to teaching the various “sleight of hand” techniques necessary for the execution of these powerhouse routines. In effect the student is getting a DVD as well as written explanation.
Also like previous publications – this is high class professional material – most of it original with the author who has been performing for over 20 years professionally on both sides of the Atlantic – and has been involved in the art of magic and mentalism for 40 years since he was a child.
Material of this nature is usually released by magic dealers at very high prices and the author has been criticised. He believes however that if a routine is sold for £30 – or £1 - the buyer will either learn it or discard it depending on their commitment to learning our ancient art.
So get ready for the second instalment of In Mind and be prepared to take mentalism and mindreading to a new level.
