About this ebook
What does it mean to enter the presence of Jesus? Can people today do this or only biblical characters?
In this classic book, Joseph Carroll shows us what it means to truly come into Jesus’ presence.
There is so much more to truly worshiping Jesus than church services and personal devotions. True worship requires complete commitment of emotions, intellect, and will—and our reward is great. Carroll directs us into the presence of Christ by drawing on Scripture, especially the book of Revelation, and by giving practical steps of personal worship. The experiences of some of history’s greatest saints also serve as relatable examples of true worship.
This deeply practical and personal book will help us know Jesus more intimately on a daily basis. It will help us draw close to Christ, to experience His presence, and to worship Him in ways far better than what most of us imagine to be possible.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all it taught me about the worship of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The author drew from Scripture and set forth very simple and practical thoughts on what true worship is and how to use what we know and live out the commitment to worship our God. It does require commitment, but as you read you will be encouraged and inspired to follow after that commitment. As it is stated on the back cover of the book, "We were created to worship Jesus Christ. We were created for Him, to become something like Him in order that He might find pleasure in us." I was very glad to have read this book and learned from this author. Now I need to put into practice those things I have learned!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a beautifully written book on worship that has challenged and inspired me to seek more of my beautiful Lord Jesus.

Foreword
To Martha, worried and fussing with many pressing chores, our Lord said, Only a few things are necessary, really only one
(Luke 10:41 NASB).
Worship is that one essential activity that must take precedence over every other duty of life.
Most people, unfortunately, are exactly like Martha—preoccupied, distracted, too busy serving to sit at the Savior’s feet. Living in a high-tech age, we tend to be driven by time clocks, deadlines, schedules, appointments, obligations, assignments, and urgent things beyond our control. Few people feel they can afford to put worship at the top of their To Do
list.
The truth is, we can’t afford not to. Worship is ultimately our first priority. Nothing on anyone’s agenda is more important. In fact, the hectic pace of modern life only elevates the importance of active, deliberate, purposeful, daily worship of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Joseph S. Carroll understands that priority and has given the church a valuable and practical handbook. In How to Worship Jesus Christ he carefully and clearly sets forth the principles of worship—what it is, why it is so critical, and most significant, how to worship.
Joseph Carroll is obsessed with worship and with the glory of our Lord. That comes through clearly in his writing. Worship is his consuming passion, and he wants to set his readers’ hearts aflame with the same yearning to know and adore the Lord Jesus. Be prepared to catch his zeal.
Nothing is more sorely needed in the church today than a renewed emphasis on worship. Sadly, the prevailing winds seem to be blowing exactly the opposite direction. The popular themes in Christian publishing appear to be self-help, self-esteem, self-love, self-fulfillment, self-development, and other self-oriented fashions. Even the deeper life
literature is tainted with an intense self-focus, promising victory, fulfillment, contentment, and other human-centered goals. Those things are fine, even desirable, but they’re the by-product of a life lived for God’s glory.
Joseph Carroll knows that and rightly fixes his focus heavenward. His concern is not temporal, earthly, or emotional blessings. He is absorbed with the privilege and duty of authentic worship. He understands that the blessings flow from that, for it is only in worshiping Jesus Christ that the believer can both plumb the depths and explore the heights of the abundant life our Lord makes possible.
But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth
(John 4:23–24 NASB).

Introduction
This is not a comprehensive treatise on prayer. It deals with one aspect of it. The masters who have given themselves to prayer agree, without discord, that the most important element of all is the essential of worship.
Young people today are not willing to settle for creeds. They want to know the Christ of the creed. Worship is the key to their quest. C. S. Lewis confirmed this conviction when he said, It is in the process of being worshipped that God communicates His presence to men.
And yet, this vital truth has been neglected.¹
The beloved A. W. Tozer in his unique way tells us that
man was made to worship God. God gave to man a harp and said, Here above all the creatures that I have made and created I have given you the largest harp. I put more strings on your instrument and I have given you a wider range than I have given to any other creature. You can worship Me in a manner that no other creature can.
And when he sinned man took that instrument and threw it down in the mud and there it has lain for centuries, rusted, broken, unstrung; and man, instead of playing a harp like the angels and seeking to worship God in all of his activities, is ego-centered and turns in on himself and sulks and swears and laughs and sings, but it’s all without joy and without worship …. Worship is the missing jewel in modern evangelicalism. We’re organized; we work; we have our agendas. We have almost everything, but there’s one thing that the churches, even the gospel churches, do not have: that is the ability to worship. We are not cultivating the art of worship. It’s the one shining gem that is lost to the modern church, and I believe that we ought to search for this until we find it.²
This volume is sent forth with the prayer that it will be used to end the search for the how
of worship for many.
Two worshipers of Jesus Christ, Barbara Haley and Dorothy King, exercised a faithful labor of love to make this volume a reality. Indeed, it would not have been published but for their commitment.
