About this ebook
“From salty caramels to addictive spicy-sweet pecans, Jen’s Candy Jar is a greatest hits collection.” – Erica Duecy, author of Storied Sips
Jen’s Candy Jar is a unique collection of recipes that celebrates the comeback of the artisanal candy-making tradition and embraces its author’s distinctive taste in sweets. Artisanal candy-maker and author Jen Laskey has honed in on her 10 favorite confections and given them a distinctly epicurean upgrade. This 78-page, richly-photographed eBook provides easy-to-follow step-by-step recipe instructions, candy-making tool and tip suggestions, as well as guidance on how to vary the base recipes with extracts, herbs, botanicals, nuts, seeds, spices, and spirits, to create your own unique confections.
With high-quality ingredients and creative flavoring embellishments that reflect a certain Willy Wonka-esque desire to make candy that is extraordinary, classic sweets like buttery English toffee, New England-style penuche, creamy dark chocolate nut butter cups, and even rock candy have been re-imagined by Laskey with flair. It’s more than the sweetness, it’s the rich flavor of Laskey’s confections that is so tantalizing—particularly in recipes like melt-in-your-mouth honey molasses caramels dusted with wild rose sea salt, toasted sesame and pecan penuche, hot Asian 5-Spice honey and lavender brittle, and superbly sour, rosemary-infused citrus peels.
Laskey is smitten with dark chocolate and prefers delicate sweets offset by spicy, savory, herbal, and floral ingredients to the usual sugar bombs. She also enjoys spiking certain recipes to create spirited candies like boozy bourbon butter cups, chocolate Chai and amaretto almond truffles, and Campari rock candy.
The homemade confections in Jen’s Candy Jar make elegant gifts for birthdays, holidays, weddings, and anniversaries. They also make decadent party favors, hostess and “thank you” gifts, and marvelous bite-sized desserts. And really, no one will blame you if you decide to keep all the candy for yourself. After all, Jen’s Candy Jar offers something satisfying for every sweet tooth.
