      This was an outstanding book, I did a book share using this book and it was a hit with the second graders I was working with!

      Genre: Informational Review: This book would be a perfect read aloud book. It talks all about different aspects of Fall and mixes up words, colors of Fall, hibernating animals, etc., each encouraging students to correct them, therefore being a great read aloud book. This book is an informational book because it tells facts about Fall, but they are all mixed up! So the facts require the students to recognize what is wrong and correct it to make the information true. Style: There are two styles represented in this story. The first is onomatopoeia. An example from this story is, "Wolves say 'Meow.' Black cats say 'Whoo.' Horned owls howl at the full moon - 'How-OOOO!'" The second style is rhythm. The story as a whole flows very well and seems to have a "beat" to it that is easy to follow. It also follows an ABCB rhyming pattern. "Every Septober, every Octember, Fall fills my senses with scenes to remember. Apples turn orange. Pumpkins turn red. Leaves float up into blue skies overhead." The author really embracing these two styles and does a great job incorporating them throughout the story. Media: Watercolor, paints, collage

      With a rhyming text from author Bob Raczka and bright, colorful artwork from illustrator Chad Cameron, this fun seasonal picture-book presents a rather mixed-up vision of fall. From orange apples and red pumpkins to hibernating geese and nut-gathering bears, there are plenty of mistakes here, both in text and illustrations, giving the young reader/listener plenty of opportunities to spot what's wrong...An entertainingly interactive title, Fall Mixed Up would make a wonderful book to read with a young child who enjoys 'search and find' stories, or any other kind of book where the reader and listener get involved more directly in figuring out what is going on. The rhyming text itself reads well, and the artwork is full of the wonderful colors of fall, even when some objects are not the shade one might expect. Recommended to picture-book readers looking for more interactive autumn stories.

      Through loose verse Raczka ushers readers through a most unusual fall. Kids will enjoy finding all of the "errors" throughout the text and illustrations. Look forward to sharing this with students in the fall!

      Fall is here with the colors of browns, reds, oranges, yellows and more. With so many holidays happening and the changing temperature it’s easy to get a little mixed up. From candy for Thanksgiving dinner to pumpkins that turn red and bears that collect nuts, it’s beginning to look like this will be a Fall to remember!I’m being completely honest when I say I’ve been on the search for great Fall picture books since I’ve had kiddos at home. It’s no easy task, especially when it comes to non-Christmas books (though I love those as well). I’m happy to say though that Fall Mixed Up has quickly become one of our absolute favorites and certainly fits the bill! Not only are the illustrations gorgeous (just take a look at the interior spread above), but the story is wonderfully original. It’s easily a story I’d recommend for Fall reading each and every year with no doubt that both parents & children will love it.In a similar fashion as Mo Willems’ We Are In A Book, Bob Raczka turns Fall Mixed Up into a story that could be read and re-read as many times as a child can ask. To see the delight on both the Turkeybird and Littlebug’s faces when they discover, at the very end of the book, that they need to go back and count all the “mix-ups” is priceless. A story that initially they thought would be a simple read through turns into an adventure to find and count all the things they thought were quite funny on a first read through.Fall Mixed Up by Bob Raczka will be taking it’s place among our favorite Fall picture books that include an impressive list of books with Alpha Oops! H is for Halloween, The Nutcracker, Where Teddy Bears Come From and I’ve Seen Santa! being just a few. Not only did the Turkeybird love the Fall colors but he especially enjoyed the rhymes and an opportunity to re-read the story while counting up all the “mixed up” things he laughed at on his first read through. If you are a parent or a Fall enthusiast looking for a new picture book to add to your collection I highly recommend Fall Mixed Up, it will certainly be getting quite a bit of use and re-readings here in our home.My original review was posted at There's A Book.

      Raczka writes and draws fall that is filled with boo-boos. This book has an I Spy kind of fun, looking on every page for the mistakes.“Apples turn orange.Pumpkins turn red.Leaves float up into blue skies overhead.”This might be a fun book for teachers to use with their classes. What’s wrong here?
