About this ebook

Based on the story of the prodigal son who, having left his father, went to a far country with his share of the inheritance which he wasted in wild living and debauchery. Finally exposed to hunger and poverty, he came back to his senses and decided to return to his father, who welcomed him and restored him.

In this book, Z. T. Fomum clearly elucidates the thought of God. Although He has offered man everything he needs to live, He offers him the freedom to choose to stay with Him. Often a person chooses his way, rebels, practices a life of independence manifested by sin. While he is coping, things can only go from bad to worse. However, God in His mercy is ready to forgive, restore, and uplift anyone who confronts his error and decides to come back to Him.

This book illustrates the unlimited love of God, who rejects no one, who is ready to bring back anyone who has rebelled against Him, to his best and in union with God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

It's a highly recommended book.

Come Back Home My Son, I Still Love You - Zacharias Tanee Fomum

    What The Bible Says

    Jesus continued:

There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. Not long after that, the younger son got together all that he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no-one gave him anything. When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.’ So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am not worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired men.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

The Offers Of God And The Choices Of Man

    1

The Goodness Of God The Father

In the story we are considering, the human father of the son represents God. God is good. First of all, He created man. Secondly, He loves man. Thirdly, He provides for the man He created. God has always had very good intentions for the man He created. First of all, He created man in His own image and after His own likeness. The Bible says,

Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all creatures that move along the ground.’ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them (Genesis 1:26-27).

God did not only create man. God blessed the man and woman He created and gave them power. The Bible says,

God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground’ (Genesis 1:28).

God did not only create man, bless him and give him power over the rest of creation, God also provided food for man. The Bible says,

Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food’ (Genesis 1:29).

God did not only create man, bless him, give him power over the rest of the creatures and provide him with food, God also gave Himself to man as a Companion for fellowship. He offered to be related to man in a most intimate way so that man would commune with Him, know Him and be welded to Him forever. The ultimate purpose of God was that man would dwell in the presence of God and enjoy God and God enjoy him forever. In order to get this objective accomplished God began to come to man in the garden for communion. The Bible says,

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, ... God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’ (Genesis 3:8-9).

So we see conclusively that God was very good to man in the beginning. God has continued to be very good to man. In the story at hand, the father gave birth to the son. The father brought up the son. The father educated him. The father provided the estate. All that was there to be inherited was the provision of the father. The father was good to the son.

We want to let you know that God has been very good to you. He caused you to be born. He blessed you with the body you have. He gave you a mind and a will as well as emotions. He made it possible for you to be brought up. He made it possible for you to be educated. He has protected you from all possible harm all these years. He has blessed you in numerous ways. He has been good to you. Acknowledge it. Please acknowledge it.

    The Choices Of The Son

Although the father offered everything to the son, he did not compel him to stay with him against the son’s wish. He wanted the son to stay with him for the son’s own good, but he could not impose this upon the son. Love does not imprison people. It sets them free and allows them to continue to be free. The son could continue to stay with the father or he could choose to go away. He chose to go away. The father, out of love for him, let him go. He let him have his own share of the inheritance. No sooner had the younger son got this part of the inheritance than he set off for a distant country.

The younger son could have chosen to stay at home with his father. Why did he choose to go away? He choose to go away because his heart was full of sin. The sin in his heart manifested itself in the following ways: Firstly, he was weary of the government of his father. He did not love his father and he did not love the way that his father handled things. He thought that he could handle the portion of his inheritance that would one day come to him better than his father was handling it. He thought he knew how to invest money better than his father. He thought he could cause his own share of the inheritance to increase faster than his father was causing it to increase. He was proud in his heart, and proud people always think that they can handle things and can do things better than everyone else.

Secondly, he was rude to his father. He commanded his father, Father, give me my share of the estate. He was not polite. He was rude. A sin-filled heart sometimes flows out in rudeness. Pride and rudeness are fruits that grow on the same tree. What about you? Are you polite to your parents, teachers, elders, seniors? Do you hold them in great esteem in your heart? There are some people who are apparently polite when the seniors are present and refer to them with titles of honour, but immediately these people are away, they are referred to with
