how is it so easy for you to be kind to people he asked
milk and honey dripped from my lips as i answered
cause people have not been kind to me
Rupi Kaur’s debut poetry collection milk and honey is a #1 New York Times bestseller and has spent more than a year on the bestseller list. This is a rare occurrence, as many people today feel that they no longer “get” the medium of poetry. However, Kaur’s poems about femininity, violence, abuse, love, and loss are very accessible and relatable.
milk and honey is split into four chapters, each focusing on a different pain:
- the hurting
- the loving
- the breaking
- the healing
Join Rupi Kaur as she leads you through the most painful and bitter moments of your life, pointing out the sweetness in them along the way. Through her words, she shows readers that sweetness can be found anywhere if we know how to look for it.
Editor's Note
Highly relatable…
Rupi Kaur’s debut collection of poetry has spent over a year on the New York Times bestseller list, a rare feat for poetry, considering how many people profess to not “get” the medium. Don’t be intimated by this collection — Kaur’s poems about womanhood are highly relatable and easily accessible.
Rupi Kaur
A breakout literary phenomenon and #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Rupi Kaur wrote, illustrated, and self-published her first poetry collection milk and honey in 2014. In 2022, she released her fourth book Healing Through Words which is a journey of guided writing exercises to help the reader explore their creativity. As she has done from the very beginning, Rupi self-produced Rupi Kaur Live, the first poetry special of its kind, which debuted on Amazon Prime Video in 2021. Rupi Kaur graces stages across the globe on sold-out world tours. These shows are a poetic theatrical experience interlaced with her own touch of stand-up. Her work touches on love, loss, trauma, healing, femininity, and migration. She feels most at home when creating art, performing her poetry onstage, and spending time with family and friends.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It seems that I am starting to like poetry. I try another poetry book this year and did not enjoy it so much but I like it this one. Is direct, is brutal and beautiful, the poems make you remember your ex, makes you feel the pain of a bad relationship and make you smile about the good moments. you choose your mood and read a part of the book. There is always something that will go to your heart no wonder why it became a bestseller.

Is a Raw, Honest, Emotional and at times Heartwrenching collection of poems. Rupi Kaur has a gift to put the complexity and the beauty of being a woman into words. ❤️ - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Many of the poems will speak directly to an event that is happening or has happened in your life. It was easy to relate to the reading and feel the emotion she was describing in situations we have all dealt with. These poems spoke to my soul and allowed me to look deeper in myself to work toward self healing. I love this book!
