    CHAPTER 1

    BE SUSPICIOUS OF FAD DIETS; PROTECT YOUR BODY

    When you open any magazine, you would find, prominently displayed, as a feature article the latest rage, the most recent diet, the one the author swears would change your life forever, would make you sexier, more attractive, a magnet for chicks or hunks. In addition, the diet promises to make you lose, almost overnight, two pounds; but there is always a catch, you have to buy this or that product, directly from such and such supplier for whom the article provides a direct link or a toll free number where eager operators are waiting to take your order. You are hooked! Your brain starts doing somersaults trying to devise a way to quickly get the product offered. The few days you have to wait for the equipment or the magic potion to arrive seems to drag forever; then, one happy day you get it: a flop, a horrible concoction that smells bad or tastes really, really awful; but, brave that you are, you make the sacrifice to drink it. After few days, once you realize that your body is stuck in the same weight you give up and get rid of the mystic potion, until the next offer comes along and the vicious cycle starts again.

    Most, if not all, fad diets are an illusion, and are frequently based on anecdotal evidence, pushed relentlessly by the self made guru who invented it, someone that exercises as if possessed by demons, somebody that eats like a bird and swears that his or her miracle shake or device would work for anyone willing to try it.

    Many of these products are completely unbalanced, may contain lots of caffeine, like green coffee beans or green tea extract- which would release Theobromine, a substance akin to caffeine.

    Some of the products are manufactured overseas where quality controls are lax or nonexistent. The formula may also contain traces of lead, mercury or arsenic. Keep in mind that the Federal Drug Administration has not tested or approved many of these products since they are not considered drugs and, based on the premise of free enterprise, they can be sold without regard to public safety. The advice is to be careful and use these products with extreme caution or not use them at all.

    TIPS:

      DON’T BUY ON IMPULSE

      ASK AROUND.  CHECK IF ANY OF YOUR FRIENDS OR CO-WORKERS HAS USED THE MIRACLE POTION OR PILLS. DID THEY WORK?

      CALL THE COMPANY AND FIND OUT IF THEY HAVE VALID, PROVEN SCIENTIFIC STUDIES ON THE PRODUCT

      ASK WHERE THE PRODUCT COMES FROM OR WHERE IT WAS MANUFACTURED

      BEFORE BUYING, WAIT FOR FEW WEEKS. AFTER A FRANTIC CAMPAIGN, MOST PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER OFFERED ON TV COMMERCIALS OR YOU CAN BUY THEM AT YOUR LOCAL RETAILER, AT LOWER PRICES AND CAN BRING THEM BACK IF YOU’RE NOT COMPLETELY SATISFIED.

      CHECK THE LIST OF INGREDIENTS: SOME PRODUCTS MAY CONTAIN CAFFEINE, EPHEDRINE, GINKO BILOBA, YOHIMBE, GUARANÁ, YERBA MATE, LICORICE(WOULD RISE BLOOD PRESSURE) OR OTHER STIMULANTS THAT WOULD KEEP YOU IN ORBIT WITH YOU BEING COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS TO THE CAUSE OF YOUR NERVOUSNESS OR SLEEPLESSNESS

      IF YOU ARE USING A NEW PRODUCT AND FEEL NERVOUS OR APPREHENSIVE, TO CALM DOWN, DON’T SMOKE, EAT OR DRINK MORE BECAUSE THEN, FOR SURE, YOUR WEIGHT WOULD REALLY TAKE OFF IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.

    CHAPTER 2

    YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION IS TODAY

    PROCRASTINATORS OF THE WORLD UNITE TOMORROW, so the slogan goes and is followed by millions of people who want to lose weight but find all kind of excuses for not doing it. Yes, I will start my diet after my birthday or after the feast of Saint Patrick or another saint of their devotion. Or maybe I will do it on New Year. In the meantime, since you would be starting a new diet, the binge continues during the holidays and beyond, bringing disappointment and depression when you realize that you have gained more weight and would forever carry on your back the BIG TUNA
