Learning Leadership - Gail Zelitzky
Dear Reader,
Learning Leadership is Volume II of the Soar for Success™ SERIES. It is written in easy language so you can understand the process that leaders use to create success - for themselves, their employees and their companies.
As the owner/leader of 2 multi-million dollar companies, I wish I had studied leadership early on. My notion of what it meant to inspire and motivate my staff consisted of reading a few books, taking a few courses and leading by example. I never understood that there is a science and a system to effective leadership. For sure, I did not realize what a great leader I could be! And, that I could coach others to be one, too.
What I did understand was that some of the independent business owners in our franchise did better than others. They grew, their sales soared, their employees were happy. The range of difference, among the franchisees, was astounding - from $300,000 to $15 million! Each owner had all the same advantages: use of the name, a solid advertising program, competitive pricing, sales promotions, merchandising and a staff (us) to help them with operations; inventory control, buying, and so much more. Why, then, was there such a huge discrepancy among results?
I’ve spent my entire career learning the answers to these questions. My graduate degree is directly geared towards creativity in leadership. My consulting practice works exclusively with women in leadership. I believe in transformation and how all of us are capable of changing the lens by which we see. I know that perspective is key and opening your mind to new ways of operating leads to success.
I also know that, in running a business, systems rule. When you have the proper systems in place, they guide you to action. Systems enable creativity to exist and innovation to rise.
