About this ebook
"Faith, wake up!"
I jumped awake at the sound of a female voice. No female had been in the car with us. I looked at the drivers seat, Clint was gone.
I was alone.
The windshield of the Impala looked as if something had been splashed across it. I leaned over the seat to turn on the headlights. I saw words, written in blood.
LOST SOULS CAN BE FOUND
I slammed my hand into the dash to turn out the lights, looked around to see that the car doors were wide open.
I WAS NOT ALONE.

Recap

James!
I jumped from the floor and ran to the sound of his voice. I barely touched a step as I made my way to the front door. To my surprise he was not alone. I stopped in my tracks.
Where did you find him, James?
I felt scared, if he knew what was happening here it wouldn’t be long until the whole town knew what was going on, and the last thing Faith needed was another mob after her.
He was pulling in behind me Clint, I didn’t bring him here. What’s the big deal? What is going on here?
I never took my eyes off the man beside James. I watched as he picked up his cell phone and though it looked like he was making a phone call, he never put it to his ear. I felt my own cell phone vibrate in my pocket. Reaching inside to see who was messaging me, I had to catch my breath as I saw who it was from.
New text from Boss
I shook off the shock, and looked up at the man I know knew better than I knew most. I cleared my throat, and stood a little straighter.
Hey there Boss, I mean Mr. Emery. I guess we have a lot to discuss now don’t we?
With a crooked smile, he simply shook his head, turned away and walked into the kitchen.
ONE
Faith
––––––––
What the hell?
I looked around the room in disbelief. I didn’t recognize anything around me. My head pounded, making it hard to focus my sight on anything. I closed my eyes and thought back, I could remember taking a trip. I knew I was headed to Maine, and that I had inherited a piece of property.
Ouch!
It hurt to think. Hell, it hurt to live right now, and I had no idea why.
A closet door began to open before me, and a large, dark figure stepped out. I would have screamed, but it was so painful just to make out the shape, I couldn’t bring myself to make such a noise. I felt my body trying to fight my mind. Fight or flight kicked in, only my body wanted flight while my brain wouldn’t allow me to move.
A deep, soothing voice began to speak in the dark. I felt relaxed as soon as he whispered my name.
Faith, don’t be afraid of me. I have come to help all of you. The witches tried to wipe your memory. I am going to give it back to you.
He stepped closer. I sat up a little straighter trying to get a better look at him.
Do I know you?
I heard the echo of my own voice rumble through my skull, and had to close my eyes once again.
You don’t know me, but I know you. I have been watching you for some time. I've been waiting for the right moment to make my presence known to you. Before I go any further I am going to restore your memory. It will help me explain who I am, without terrifying you.
As he stepped closer to me, I noticed that he stood at almost seven feet tall. His hands made my head look like a melon as he placed them on either side. I don’t know why I didn’t run. I don’t know why I didn’t scream. I just closed my eyes, and felt the pain leave my body, as it left behind the clarity of where I was. Why I was here, and suddenly the fear returned.
No. No, this can’t be right.
He released his hands from my head and sat down on the floor in front of me.
Faith, do you remember who, and what you are now?
I shook my head, even though I didn’t believe it.
Are you sure these are my memories?
I had to ask, everyone makes mistakes once in a while. He chuckled, as if he could read my thoughts which led me to my next thought. To keep them quiet for now.
I don’t make mistakes, Faith. This will be hard for you to believe, but I am here to help you despite what you may already think you know about me.
I couldn’t understand what he meant by that, since I was fairly certain I would remember meeting someone of his size, with such white eyes, as if they had no color to them at all.
My name is Barbatos. Does that name mean anything to you?
I thought back as hard as I could, but had never heard a name like that before, not for a person anyway. A vacation place, maybe sounded familiar. I shook my head, revealing that I had no memory of him.
When I leave here today, you won’t remember me again until I need you to. Let’s just say that there is a certain order we like to keep things at, and if this isn’t stopped it will disrupt that order. My boss can’t let that happen. We can’t let chaos rule, and that is where you come in. Are you following me, Faith?
I nodded my head again. Was this linked to the military somehow? I couldn’t understand what he meant by ‘order’ of things.
You are going to meet a woman, and this is key to taking them out. We will make sure that this meeting takes place. You need to trust Clint, he would, and may die for you. Most importantly, you need to know that you are the half of a key. The woman you will meet is the other half.
He paused to make sure I heard him. I nodded again, not sure if I should speak at all.
When the time comes we will meet again, and you will remember me. It is important that you don’t until that moment to keep our plans safe.
I nodded again, only this time I had a question that needed answers before he spoke another word.
Barbatos, are you a hunter like Clint, or a witch like me?
I needed to know, because right now I was a little scared to trust either.
This is the most important piece of the puzzle, and might be the biggest of all reasons for you to forget me until I am needed again.
He paused, and took my hand. It felt weird as we touched, as if I should pull my hand away, but I didn’t. Then he said the words that made me understand my desire to run, made every hair on my body stand on end, and made it hard to breathe.
Faith, my name is Barbatos. I am the Duke of hell. I am the Demon of Communication, and I am here to tell you everything you need to know to make sure that certain things stay the way they have always been. This will disrupt your neighbors upstairs as much as your neighbors downstairs where I reside, so understand that I am not, nor ever will lie to you. None of us want to start that war yet.
He chuckled again, and as I sat in stunned silence, he tightened his grasp on my hand.
Faith, by the time we meet again you will see me as an ally, not a threat. We don’t need to vacation together in order to make this work. You don’t have to like the idea, but you will accept it. Between now and then, I will be placing ideas, and clues for you to find. This will help put all the pieces together. I have had to step in once or twice already, so that you could communicate with the dogs. It wasn’t witchcraft that made that happen, and this special gift is one I am giving you now, until we meet again. The dogs know more than the witches, and they will help you get to where we need you to be. It is important that you can communicate with them if I cannot come to aid. You don’t need to fear me, or my army. The survival of the key is our main concern. Everyone’s main concern, and you need to learn to trust what you fear before I can allow you to remember me.
Barbatos let go of my hand, and began to back away toward the closet. He didn’t say another word until he started to close the door. I couldn’t make out the language he used, but then I heard the door click behind him.

Opening my eyes, I couldn’t hear anything around me. Only silence seemed to keep me company, and the dancing moon outside surrounding me in light. I knew she wasn’t inside me anymore; I could feel the cold floor under my body once again. I could taste the blood coming from my lip. I hadn’t
