The Art of Why - Frankie Russo

"
The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out WHY.
— Mark Twain
Walt Disney wanted to spark creativity and awaken the child in every person on the planet. Fred Smith wanted to get a package from point A to point B, and he wanted to do it faster than anybody else. Coco Chanel wanted to revolutionize the fashion industry.
What did these three pioneers have in common? Each one knew WHY they did what they did.
Here is what I know for sure. You were born for a purpose! You were born to forge a unique path! How do I know this? You are reading this book. You are seeking higher ground, better answers, another way. You may have noticed that the world is full of sheep – flocks of people following the pack. They are walking a path with no idea why or where they want to end up. I know this because I used to be one of those sheep. I was following the purpose of others instead of my own. And my motives were shallow and self-centered.
Washington Irving said, Great minds have purpose; others have wishes.
Asking yourself why you are here gives your journey purpose. It takes the wishes you have for your life and gives them meaning.
Of course, people may have vague descriptions of where they want to end up. There are some who say I want to be happy
or I want to be successful
or I want to be healthy.
But few people stop to ask WHY. And even fewer stick with the question long enough to find out the answer. Those who do create Mickey Mouse, overnight shipping companies, and Chanel Number 5.
I’ve spent years of soul searching to discover and then master the art of my WHY. I have realized my WHY is helping other people get what they need. It’s the the most fulfilling act I can do. Ultimately, it’s why I’m here. That’s the reason I turned my WHY into an art form I was determined to master.
Although I have tried many ways to perfect my purpose I found the steps in this book never fail me. I can apply them to any aspect of my life or any goal I set out to achieve. In this book I am applying them to my ultimate WHY, my reason for living. But feel free to apply them elsewhere as well.
There are ten steps to mastering your WHY. The first five are the Start-Up Steps.
Working them reminds me of the way bamboo grows. For the first four years it’s a puny little tree and there is little outward growth. But in the fifth year bamboo can easily grow 80 feet. These first five steps are like the beginning of the bamboo tree and will be the foundation for your success. Take your time with each step. If you find yourself struggling it’s OK to go back if you need to rework a previous one. But you must work the first five before moving to the second half of the master
