About this ebook
Written by Scribd Editors
Drawing on more than a decade of experience teaching research methods, Christopher Howard transforms a typically dreary subject and teaches novice political scientists the critical skills they need to read, evaluate and produce research more effectively in his book Thinking Like a Political Scientist. Most other books on research methods are filled with stuffy technical definitions and statistical analysis, dulling the potential enjoyment of the learning experience and preventing students from mastering research skills they must have to succeed in the field.
The first part of the book asks three fundamental questions in political science: What happened? Why? Who cares? In the second section, Howard demonstrates how to answer these questions by choosing a relevant research design, selecting cases, and using numbers and written documents as evidence.
Howard is Assistant Professor of Government at the College of William and Mary. His expertise is in American politics and public policy.
Using examples from politics, international relations and public policy, Thinking Like a Political Scientist highlights the most common challenges that political scientists most often face.
