    INTRODUCTION

When traveling on the railroad of life, it helps if you’re on the right track.

    Ed Dugan

I’ve lived my life on the premise that, if things didn’t work out the way I planned, my only choice was to seek other options. I don’t stew when hard times hit, I recognize that a problem has occurred and immediately look for other ways to solve it. As I’ve said in some of my other books, when you realize you have a problem, it’s no longer the problem, the problem then becomes finding a solution.

The way things are today, many of the old reliables we used to count on are gone or disappearing. I’m talking about manufacturing jobs, safe retirement plans, home equity, things the average American family assumed would help chart their future.

At one time, a good education could be counted on to move you forward but even that’s no longer true. Millions of college and high school graduates are finding that there’s not much out there to choose from.

If you and your family are facing a financial situation that needs to change, this book will show you one way to do that by living a great life on the water. Lynne and I can guarantee it will make you much more self-sufficient and less vulnerable to economic turmoil. It will put YOU, not circumstances, in charge of your life.

We lived full-time aboard our boat for over ten years, and this book is based on our experiences. We can say for sure, it will provide a way for you and your family to live a happy life in an incredible setting. So, go ahead, dream a little. If something has happened that made you think about changing your plans, nothing positive will take place until you confront your situation. Having to drastically alter your lifestyle can be a little overwhelming, but it can be done.

Maybe financial reasons have nothing to do with your desire to live a less complicated life. Maybe you’re just tired of the daily grind, or maybe you just want to do something different. So do it!

    Good luck.

    Lynne and Ed Dugan

    A Different Kind of Life

Anytime living on a boat is mentioned, a lot of people reject the idea out of hand. There may be very good reasons for that, such as a fear of the water, a tendency to get sea sick, or simply because it’s an unusual idea.  We urge you to at least consider what we have to say about it.

Here are just a few of the arguments for giving serious consideration to boat life:

    No yard work.

A never-ending choice of neighbors and neighborhoods.

    No yard work.

An incredible lifestyle that can be adjusted to fit your income.

A wonderful degree of freedom that gives you more control over your life.

A greatly simplified way of life.

Did I mention no yard work?

Life on a boat can be just as rewarding and just as complete as any other lifestyle, perhaps even more so. One of the extra attractions is, for the most part, you’re living under the radar. It’s a very private kind of existence.

It might surprise you to know there are over 200,000 Americans living full-time on the water today, and I suspect, with far fewer worries and concerns
