About this ebook
Shaping up as one of the 21st century’s more intractable crimes identity theft is the inspiration for this new novel.
An actual crime in the USA in 1997 which involved the fraud of over $US100 million from a group of insurance companies, sets the scene for an unusual case of identity theft involving a US swindler, a crooked US attorney, an ordinary Australian guy and a firm of Forensic Accountants.
The swindler is Larry Tycehurst and he endeavours to use the science of DNA and the crime of identity theft to reward himself with the funds looted from the insurance companies, whilst blaming others. He is the long forgotten uncle of the Australian Freddy Tycehurst.
Unfortunately ill health intervenes and he dies before he can carry out his plan leaving the $100 million up for grabs but legally willed to Freddy Tycehurst in Sydney. Complication is that the money is in a bank in Panama and is also sought by the FBI and a crooked US attorney who sees the money as an opportunity to rip off the beneficiary.
The story is told over two time periods interweaving a fictional account of the original (true) crime and how it was carried out, and the present day attempt by the beneficiary of the will to understand and untangle what has happened and determine if the money is his or not.
He works with a firm of Forensic Accountants in Sydney before he ventures to the USA to try to resolve the issue but meets circumstances which force him into confrontations with the FBI and action in Panama City, Panama before he can clarify what he has to do, which is to utilize the money in his own way.
His life is further complicated by the actions of an online criminal who has also stolen his identity.
