About this ebook
A wise person once said “The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”
Because that’s the goal of parenting, right? We all want to raise compassionate, independent young adults, who have the courage, confidence and desire to reach their potential. But how do we raise children to be this way: resilient and confident?
Self-confidence, for the most part, rises out of a sense of competence – from a feeling that we can do things, big and small. Inside this book you will find 100 LIFE SKILLS that every kid would benefit from learning by the time they’re ready to leave home.
Why? Because we are raising the future adults of this world.
The bottom line is this: we need to equip our kids with the skills they need to survive and prosper in the real world. Eventually they will leave home and we need to do what we can to guarantee their greatest chance of success in life.
This book provides information on all the important skills, needed to succeed both inside and outside the home. These skills are not only valuable but achievable because it's never too late to learn something new.

FOREWARD
ON CHILDREN
From The Prophet
By Kahlil Gibran
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.
INTRODUCTION
For Parents
Denis Waitley was indeed correct when he said: The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.
In this book you will find 100 life skills that every kid would benefit from knowing by the time they’re ready to leave home.
Life skills are defined as skills that are necessary or desirable for full participation in everyday day. Technically any skill that is useful can be considered a life skill but they are usually associated with helping us live a better quality of life, so we can accomplish our dreams and live to our full potential.
Because that’s our goal of parenting, right? We all want to raise compassionate, independent kids who have the courage, confidence, tenacity and desire to reach their potential. But how do we raise children to be this way: resilient and confident?
Self-confidence rises out of a sense of competence – from a feeling that you can do things, big and small. As a parent, we can encourage a can-do attitude in our children by providing them with as many opportunities to master new skills.
Bottom line is this: you are raising a future adult. You need to equip your kids with the skills they need to survive and prosper in this world. This is one of the greatest gifts you can pass on as a parent.
But please don’t wait until your child is on the brink of adulthood to teach them these skills. You need to start as early as you can. Because you know what is even harder than letting your children go? It’s not preparing them for the real world.
If your child hasn’t learned something, maybe it’s because they haven’t been taught. It is up to you as a parent to acknowledge if you have been hindering their process of growth by not allowing them to make their own mistakes and discoveries in this world.
The truth is much as you love your children, you will eventually need to let them go. I know, I know, we all wish we could forever protect our kids from the dangers of the world. Only problem is over-parenting sometimes has the opposite effect. Despite our best and most noble intentions, when we over-parent we deprive our kids of the opportunities to learn things on their own. This in turn creates young adults who feel insecure, incapable and unconfident.
So you need to make sure your children have the right tools for this journey. Here in this book you will find 100 useful life skills that your child would benefit greatly from mastering. Feel free to show them the ropes and watch them practice but after that, it is up to them to handle it on their own. Because whether you like it or not, your child will eventually leave home and you need to do what you can to guarantee their greatest chance of success in life.
For the Future Adults of This World
So you are holding a book that purports to contain all the things you need to know before you leave home. Pretty crazy stuff, right? If you’re lucky, you may find you have already mastered a few things from this list. If so, that’s great! Some are quite simple skills and easy to grasp. Other life skills are more difficult but still worth learning because everything here will help you live a more productive, fulfilling life.
Think now about the things that make you feel confident. When you’re truly confident, it means you have faith in your own talents and abilities but not in an arrogant, stuck-up way. Real confidence is instead the belief and quiet inner knowledge that you’re capable, despite what other people say.
So how can you begin to feel more capable? Well this road to confidence is paved by daily accomplishments. You don’t need to be the smartest kid in the class or most popular to stake your claim on confidence. Focus instead on learning new things and practicing them often until you feel competent enough because competence breeds confidence.
There’s no reason why you can’t start today. Go out and learn new things! Chase your dreams! They say knowledge is power but once you have it, you need to practice it too. In the words of Dr. Seuss: You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
So go out there and master these skills today because they will without a doubt help you feel more confident and competent in your life.

1. HOW TO DO LAUNDRY
Laundry is a skill every adult needs to know. The great thing is you can be taught how to do this from a young age.
Here are the steps you will need to learn:
Always check the labels on your clothing first – this is how you will know if your clothes need to be washed in a special way.
Sort out the dirty clothes into different piles – you will need to separate clothing by colour to prevent discoloration. Make sure you first empty all the pockets so pens, money or paper don’t accidentally make their way into the wash. Piles which can be formed include:
White or light colours (you may need
