    Chapter 1

    TigerFit Weight Cut

Weight cutting is a big part of combat sports but is also an unhealthy tradition. It consists of fighters removing enough water weight from their body to meet the limit of a certain weight class. This is accomplished by using aggressive and deliberate dehydration techniques. The goal is to strategically sacrifice and suffer to drop bodyweight, and then recover as much as possible in-between the official weigh-in and fight time.

When done correctly, this could provide a maximum size advantage over an opponent. The rationale being that the bigger fighter should have more strength, power and durability in combat. Unfortunately, a strategy which could provide great benefit may also completely backfire.

Countless poor performances may be attributed to improper weight cuts. Dehydration and improper fueling are both major limiting factors in athletic performance and both occur commonly after sub-optimal cuts. Strength, power, endurance and cognitive function are all negatively impacted with a mere 3% dehydration (~30% decrease in performance).
