There’s a Big Difference Between Creating a Top-Selling Information Product and Creating an Information Marketing Business . . .
Too many people confuse social media, internet marketing campaigns, and
information product creation with business building. They chase the next
online marketing secret, raise their prices, or try a new joint venture tactic
but miss out on what it takes to build a business that lasts. It takes a
specific set of skills to create a long-term, sustainable business.
The Information Marketing Business Pyramid™ gives you examples, step-by-step
resources, and worksheets to help you get your information marketing business
launched. But that’s only the beginning. It also guides you through the process
of turning your new venture into a long-term wealth generator for you and
your family. Plus it reveals how to build an info-business even if you don’t
know how to create information products or have no idea what type
of information product you should create.

Preface
It’s Not What You Know, It’s What You Learn
Over the last 18 years, I’ve marketed products, newsletters, and seminars to 32 different business sectors and professional occupations. I generate millions of dollars in subscription income and meeting registrations each year. You can learn more about me from my blog at RobertSkrob.com.
In 2006, I worked with a group of info-marketers to create the Information Marketing Association, the trade association for our industry. Every month since, I’ve hosted a Jump Start Coaching call for members so they can ask questions and get the answers they need to build successful info-marketing businesses. During these calls I have personally worked with more than 700 different info-marketing business owners, heard the challenges they faced, and helped them overcome those challenges to achieve success. With their challenges in mind, I wrote this book as a detailed, step-by-step business-building guide for anyone interested in growing their info-marketing business.
A long time ago I remember kneeling in front of my desk, praying to God for an opportunity to come along. With tears in my eyes, I told God I would work harder than anyone else had ever worked, and I begged him to just show me what to do. I was fed up with wasted time, frustrated with dead ends, and scared I wasn’t going to make it financially, failing my wife, our two kids, and myself.
I got the help I needed along the way. But the book you are holding is the guide I wish had dropped from the sky and onto my desk that morning. I have spent more hours than I care to admit to make this a comprehensive guide for launching your own business and creating something that can make your dreams come true while helping you avoid a lot of wasted effort and wrong turns.
The business I outline will work. I’ve watched it happen too many times and in too many industries to have any doubt. And when it does, it’s better than any other business you could own.
But first, a warning.
When I told God I was willing to work harder than anyone else on the planet, I meant it. For many years I worked 12-hour days and pulled several all-nighters to grow my new business.
This business will require work. You are going to have to learn new skills. You will need to master new technologies. None of it will be difficult, however, and I can promise it’s been mastered by people who have a whole lot fewer skills and less intellect than you do. But it’s going to be work.
I’m tired of books and programs that gloss over the work involved so they can get more sales from people who fall for easy promises of wealth without work. Instead, I’m only writing for and working with people who are committed to themselves and to overcoming any roadblocks in front of them. I’m looking for people who, like me just a few years ago, are willing to do the work but just need someone to outline the path.
The path will take work to follow. However, this book highlights the way, and everywhere I could, I smoothed out the rough patches for you.
While I’ve had the opportunity to learn from my own experiences, I’ve also accumulated lessons learned from hundreds of others I’ve coached. I know the pitfalls, and this step-by-step guide helps you avoid them. With this guide you receive the accumulated knowledge of thousands of hours of testing, trial, and error.
I wrote most of this book myself, but I did invite a few select guest authors to contribute chapters that provide a different perspective and some specific knowledge where they have particular expertise. Their contributions add a lot to the book and make this guide an even better resource for you.
If you need help, you may send me an email at RS@infomarketingsuccess.com. Please give me a few days to respond. My available consulting days are routinely sold out for months, and I’ve got my own businesses to operate. However, there’s no one better at taking a complicated business structure and breaking it down into an easy-to-follow, step-by-step approach that provides you clarity on what to do next, as well as the confidence that you are headed in the right direction. Consider this book to be my first email to you. I’m writing it with respect and appreciation for you. I want you to succeed, and in these pages I outline everything I can to make it simple and easy for you.
But now it’s up to you.
What are you going to do with this information? Are you going to act and build a business now? Or are you going to put it off till next week, next month, or next year?
Within the covers of this book, you have everything you need to get started and begin making money in your information-marketing business. Don’t put it off. Launch your business today. Turn the page now.

Escape Hours for Dollars:
Do the Work
Once and Get Paid
Many Times
There have never been greater, more diverse, more lucrative opportunities for everyone—both very experienced, successful entrepreneurs and rank beginners—in the field of information marketing. As the president of the Information Marketing Association, I thought I’d begin by defining what information marketing is, providing a bit of personal background, and giving you a quick preview of what you can expect in the rest of this book.
Information marketing is responsive to and fueled by the ever-increasing pressure on people’s time. Businesspeople and consumers alike need information provided to them in convenient forms. In some cases, they need an extension of the information; methods and strategies that might have been taught to them ten years ago are now done for them. The information industry encompasses products like traditional books, audio programs, videos, or DVDs that you might buy in a store, from a catalog, or online; magazines; newsletters; ebooks; membership websites; teleseminars and webinars; tele-coaching programs; and seminars and conferences—and combinations thereof. The possible topics are almost endless. People are buying information on every imaginable topic, from better sex to teaching parrots to talk, to gardening, to investing in real estate foreclosures, to running businesses. Information marketing, then, is about identifying a responsive market with high interest in a particular group of topics and areas of expertise, packaging information products and services matching that interest (written/assembled by you or by others or both), and devising ways to sell and deliver it. If you can name it, somebody is packaging and profitably selling information about it.
It’ll be instructive to give you a random list of topics and markets these businesses cover and then a couple more detailed examples. Random list of subjects: yoga for golfers, investing in tax lien certificates, extreme fitness, persuasive voice skills for business, how to get women to approach you, how to make money on eBay, how to learn gunsmithing at home as a hobby or a business . . . and in business niches: marketing systems, management, or finance information for restaurant owners, dentists, chiropractors, auto repair shop owners, real estate agents, insurance agents, menswear retailers, jewelry store owners, pest control operators, or even professional magicians.
As an example of a business niche, consider IMA member Rory Fatt, who owns Restaurant Marketing Systems. Rory has more than 100 restaurant owners each paying $10,000 yearly to be in his top-level coaching program; nearly 4,000 buying and using
