About this ebook
Learn About The Future Of Artificial Intelligence In A Fraction Of The Time It Takes To Read The Actual Book!!!
Inside your cranium is the thing that allows you to read, your brain. Animals have other abilities like knifelike claws and powerful muscles. But our brain has let us create a system for verbal communication, science, electronics, and intimate public arrangement. Each generation has done better and progressed farther than the previous generation.
We have the dominance, because we can build the things. We could build a superintelligence that could safeguard human values. But we’d only get one chance, because if the superintelligence became unfriendly, getting rid of it or changing it would be next to impossible.
It seems possible that sometime soon there could be an artificial intelligence advancement. And a couple chapters of this book are devoted to possible pathways to that. But the majority of the book is devoted to what happens next. The powers of the superintelligence, the decisive choices available. Then how do we mold the conditions to get a survivable and favorable outcome. Towards the end we look at the big picture and how to avoid catastrophe.
There may be things in this book Bostrom fails to take into account, and he may draw some wrong conclusions. There is uncertainty and it is expressed when necessary.

Growth modes and big history
Our change from apes to homo-sapiens on the timeline happened relatively quickly. We became upright, got opposable thumbs, and our brain size increased which lead to a jump in intellectual ability. Because of this humans can think hypothetically, talk about complex thoughts, and culturally gather information from past generations better than any other animal.
This has let us create technologies, making it possible for our ancestors to migrate away from plush forest areas and go from hunter gatherers to agriculturists, and then industrialists. If we continue to grow at the same pace as now, by 2050 we will be 4.8 times richer and by 2100 34 times richer.
But if we experience a rate of growth like we did when we went from agriculture to industrial, it would pale in comparison.
Great expectations
Machines being capable of reasoning, learning, and making decisions have been proposed since the 1940s when computers were first invented. The possibility of general AI or artificial intelligence is thought to be about two decades away.
Now we know there may be risks involved with AI, because if they then built another greater than human AI it could be a catastrophe. They gave no credence to potential computer overlords.
Seasons of hope and despair
In a 1956 Dartmouth summer project, 10 scientists got together and started field research regarding artificial intelligence. Ever
