THE CHRISTMAS STORY AS RECORDED IN THE GOSPEL OF LUKE

    ..................

    DECEMBER 1: ANGELIC VISITATION

    Luke 1:26-29:

²⁶Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, ²⁷to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. ²⁸And having come in, the angel said to her, Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!

²⁹But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was.

As we begin this Christmas Story, we are told the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a young woman named Mary. If you casually read over this verse, you might miss some major significance. Mary had a heavenly encounter with an angelic being. According to the Bible, the angel Gabriel physically appeared to her and had a conversation.

Gabriel is an angel who regularly stands before the throne of God (Luke 1:19). Along with Michael the archangel, he is only one of two angels mentioned in the Bible by name. Gabriel is a very significant angel to the Heavenly Father. The Lord chose Gabriel to announce to Mary the upcoming arrival
