A huge, huge thank you to my husband Steve for always being my biggest cheerleader. You always encourage me in the pursuit of my latest new ambition and you do whatever it takes to help make it come to fruition. I am truly blessed to have found you, and I am forever thankful.
I also want to thank my kids, Tyler, Hailey, and Baby #3 for being my truest inspiration. It is because of you that my time has become so much more valuable. Everything I learn and do is because of you guys. I am a lucky mama to have been blessed with such fun, silly, and insightful children. Mama loves you!
Introduction
Hey, mama! I am so glad you are here. I, like you, am a busy mom with a lot on her plate. I have work and family, school and friends, my blog and myself. At the time I am writing this book, I work full time, have 2 small kids, I’m in grad school, I blog, I teach dance, I’m the founder of a nonprofit, and I still make time for friends, family and self-care. That’s a lot for one person to manage.
If motherhood were a business, us mamas would probably be required to obtain several years of training in order to manage everything we have on our plate. We’d likely have courses in time management, spreadsheets, calendar software, people management, and budgeting. There would be webinars and seminars and workshops all created to teach us how to make decisions, set goals, create efficiencies and prevent burnout.
In reality moms are often thrust into the role of mother and homemaker with little idea of how to make it all work. We become overwhelmed, we lose our identity, we feel like we are drowning in a sea of never ending to dos. We wonder how our own mothers did it and quickly realize that we’re living in a whole different ballgame.
In this book, I take tactics from my own experience combined with concepts taught to business leaders and entrepreneurs and apply them to motherhood. You will learn how some of the most successful people start and end their day in order to make the most of the middle. I will also discuss techniques you can use during your day to create efficiencies and make the best use of your time.
Several times throughout the book I will mention printable pages that I use to help organize and plan out my time. I want you to get the most out of this book so I’m sharing with you all of the planning pages for free. Just head on over to www.themultitaskingmomsite.net/take-back-your-time and sign up for my resource library where you can find all of the worksheets discussed in this book and more.
Who is this book for?
This book is for every mama. You can be a dedicated business mama, a working mama, a budding entrepreneur, a stay at home mom, a work at home mom, a mama looking to get her energy back, or any combination of these. In other words, this book is for all moms. Moms who want to feel less frazzled and more in control of their time no matter what they want or have to do with that time.
Too often books on organizing time cater only to moms who want to start a business. On the one hand, this is great because starting a business takes a lot of time and organization, but so does plain being a mom. This book is for moms who are not necessarily looking to start a business, although beware, once you start organizing your time and setting goals, you might want to become an entrepreneur too!
Who is this book not for?
This book is not for the person who is looking for a magic bullet to find 5 extra hours in the day. You will not suddenly be able to complete everything ever on your to do list and then relax for the rest of your life.
Efficiently managing your time takes effort and planning. Also, the very thing we are trying to manage, motherhood, can be super spontaneous. We have to be prepared that some days will get the best of us. But with this book we can help ensure that most days, we get the best of the day.
I know that you are a kind and loving mama who just wants to make the best use of her time so that you can spend more quality time with your family and less time feeling frazzled and overwhelmed.
I know because I am a mom just like you. I have play dates, and kids’ activities, and sick days, and work life to juggle. I know the feeling of being asked Mommy, do you want to play with me?
and feeling your heart strings being pulled all the while thinking but I have this, this, and this to do.
Most productivity books out there are by men for men. The few by women are generally for those looking to start a business. They advocate staying up all night and pushing yourself and all these crazy things that make you feel out of control and eventually burnt out. This book is
