Women leaders are the solution to leadership solvency.
When you align your values with your leadership style and come from a place of being authentically who you are, there is congruency and consistency in your life and in the lives of the people working with you.
The doors to leadership open to you when you begin to align your values with your leadership skills. When your behaviors, actions, language and decisions reflect your values, your leadership is aligned with you as a person.

Who will be the leaders of the future?
I wrote this eBook to serve women wanting to become leaders and wanting to increase their understanding of leadership; women wanting to define, redefine, examine, and re-examine their leadership skills; women wanting to examine, understand, and explore how their values impact leadership. I hope the result of reading this eBook is women having increased their self-confidence in their leadership abilities and skills; a better understanding of their communication style and how it impacts leadership; clarification of their purpose and role as a leader, so women can begin to lead and change the world.
Years ago in graduate school I became fascinated with all facets of leadership. I wrote a paper in graduate school back in 1989, which is showing my age. I was getting my masters degree in Rehabilitative Counseling with the Deaf. The title of my paper was Integrated Model of Leadership: Essential Features of Effective Leadership in Deafness Rehabilitation.
In my paper I answered the question, Who will be the leaders of the future?
I wrote, They will be people who walk the talk. They inspire. They challenge. They teach. They add color and dimensions to the vision. They give life to the vision. They have integrity and do the right thing.
I believe effective leaders demonstrate those qualities. With more than 25 years of experience managing teams and divisions of human services organizations, I have come to believe that the leaders of the future are women.
According to Fortune, June 6, 2016, Valentina Zarya, the 2016 Fortune 500 lists released on Monday, includes just 21 companies with women at the helm—compared 24 last years and in 2014. Or, to look at it another way, women now hold a paltry 4.2% of CEO positions in America’s 500 biggest companies. The CATALYST, January 3, 2017, reports 22 or (4.4%) are women who currently hold CEO positions at S&P 500 companies, based on the October 2015 S&P 500. Women of color make up a third of all working women but they are scarce in corporate America. Women of color make up just 16.5 percent of people who work for S&P: 500 companies, some of the country’s largest and most financially powerful, according to new research from Catalyst. But they become even rarer the further up the ladder you go. They represent less than 10 percent of managers, a measly 3.9 percent of executives, and just 0.4 percent of CEOs. In fact, there is not a single Latina CEO among the S&P 500. (ThinkProgress, Bryce Covert, March 17, 2015). According to Fortune, Women on Boards, Madelyn Farber, June 14, 2016, women held one in every five board seats at S&P 500 companies last year, or 19.9%, according to a survey from Catalyst, a research group that tracks executive women. That was only a slight increase from 19.2% the year before. Men continue to be overrepresented, holding more than their fair share of board seats and, in some cases, all the board seats,
Deborah Gillis, president and CEO of Catalyst, said in a statement. Only 26.9% of open director positions went to women, according to the study. Although zero women on boards are becoming slightly less common at 2.8%, there was only one female board member at 24.6% of S&P 500 companies. Moreover, only 14.2% of companies had 30% or more women on their boards.
Yet as reported in the Catalyst’s Report, The Bottom Line: Corporate Performance and Women’s Representation on Boards, the Fortune 500 companies with the highest representation of women board directors attained significantly higher financial performance, on average, than those with the lowest representation of women board directors. IN addition, the report pointes out, on average, notably stronger-than-average performance at companies with three or more women board directors.
According to the Worldwide Guide to Women in Leadership, www.guide2womenleaders as of January 31, 2017, there are currently 28 presidents, prime ministers, and other heads of state.
In over 30 years of working in the non-profit world, I’ve seen a lack of women in leadership roles and, in general, lack of values and effective leadership. There is a bankruptcy of leadership.
From the ‘Terrible Truth’ About Women On Corporate Boards from Forbes Women, 6/7/2011 by Judy B. Rosener, Ph.D., the terrible truth
is the growing knowledge that women tend to exhibit different leadership attributes than men, not better or worse, merely different. They tend to be more holistic rather than linear thinkers, they tend to negotiate in a win/win rather than a win/lose manner, they tend to be sensitive to subliminal cues, and comfortable with ambiguity.
Our female attributes, which previously and historically had been ridiculed, invalidated and ignored, are what are needed in a value-based leadership approach.
