    France Can Bring Criminal Charges Against Uber, Judges Rule

    The decision is a setback for the ride-hailing company which has been in a battle internationally with taxi companies. Regular cab firms say Uber gets a regulatory free ride that they don't enjoy.

    The EU's highest court ruled on Tuesday that France can bring criminal charges against Uber managers for running an illegal taxi service. France can do that without first notifying the European Commission, said the judges.

    The case concerns a French law that deems, a ride-sharing service which used nonprofessional drivers to transport passengers to their destinations. Uber received a 800,000 euro fine and two executives were also fined, Reuters .
