    Chapter 1: A Foreign Land

Eighty-five days after the quest of the Seven Swords began, eighty-five days after the day in the Year of Our Lord 1488 when the cloaked stranger came to the High King of Andomhaim’s court, Ridmark Arban found himself answering a great many questions.

    He did not mind.

Ridmark could hardly blame Tamara for her curiosity, after all.

Until a few days ago, Tamara had spent the entirety of her life in the town of Kalimnos, the southernmost town of the realm of Owyllain. She had been tormented by nightmares and believed that she would eventually go insane. Then Ridmark and Calliande and the others had come to Kalimnos, and Tamara had learned the truth or at least part of the truth. She had many questions of Calliande, the Keeper of Andomhaim, and many questions of Tamlin, the man who had seemingly been her husband.

And, Ridmark suspected, the man who wished to be her husband again. Not that Tamara was opposed to the idea. But such things took time.

Right now, it seemed, Tamara was curious about the realm of Andomhaim.

Then there are many such Knights of the Order of the Soulblade? said Tamara.

Ridmark looked at her. She was a tall woman, strong and fit, with long black hair bound back in a braid. Her right eye was blue, but her left was
