- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Out of all of the books I have read in my 62 years of life, this is the best I've ever read. I thank the author for taking so much time out of her personal life to work on this project. It spans the lifetime of my mother and I can clearly see what she must have been do it to achieve what she has achieved. I can only say to my Northern Brothers and sisters do not feel our ancestors. They paid a horrendous price for our freedom.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a brilliantly researched and beautifully written book detailing the horrors of Jim Crow south, the ferocious opposition of the rest of the country to six million fleeing southern blacks (the emigrants), and the indomitable spirit and fortitude of individuals determined to forge a better life for themselves and for their families.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The best book I have ever read explaining the migration of the African American from the South to the North. I hope this book becomes became required reading in schools, colleges and is read by all of us interested in story of race in America.
