Autism: Fixations Obsessions and Special Interests
()
About this ebook
This book breaks down the similarities and differences between Autism fixations, obsessions, and special interests. Travis shares his opinions on how the fixations and obsessions battle against the special interest. The negative against the positive. Travis feels he has greater control over what his special interest than what he fixates on. Travis works hard to eliminate the negative fixations.
Travis explains what makes a fixation unhealthy for him. He is constantly balancing healthy fixations with positive special interests. His goal is to make sure the positive special interests win out over the negative fixations. There are occasions where a fixation can be positive if someone is focused on a positive thing but most of the time fixations affect how intently you are focused on something and make the object of your focus become an unhealthy obsession.
Travis shows the reader how to use mindfulness and cognitive behavior therapy to challenge the fixations that are unhealthy by redirecting his thought process to special interests that are healthy for him. Travis says it is all about learning how to use positive energy to focus your attention to avoid the negative energy of the fixation that forms in his brain.
In this book Travis tells you all about special interests, obsessions, and fixations and teaches you how to interact with each of them. If you love someone with autism this is a great book to read to gain a better understanding of who a person with autism is and what their fixations, obsessions, and special interests mean to them.

About the Author
Autism: Fixations Obsessions and Special Interests
There are many things about autism that I often think about. One of those things is the special interest. Along with the special interest in autism are things like fixations and obsessions.
I have had many different special interests throughout my life and journey with autism. I have also been stuck and fixated on things along my journey.
I feel there are many similarities between fixations, obsessions, and special interests but there are also many things that are different about each one.
A special interest is going to be something that I am very interested in and like quite a bit. I will become interested in learning everything about the special interest so that I can know everything I can about it. I might know more history about something than a typical person might simply because it is my special interest.
A fixation on the other hand can be something that I get stuck on. Sometimes I can get stuck on things that I am interested in but often I get stuck worrying and fixating on things that I am not even interested in.
I might look at a picture on the wall in a room and realize it is crooked. Many people might also think this picture is crooked and have it bother them slightly but there is a good chance that this picture being crooked would really bother me and I would start to obsess over it.
When I obsess over something I feel I am fixating on it and when I fixate on things is when they have the potential to cause me distress and interfere with my life.
On the other hand, special interests do not usually cause me any distress and are most likely always a source of comfort for me. Special interests are very important and can even help me cope with some social things that are going on in my life.
Fixations are uncomfortable thoughts and feelings about something that are so intense they are intrusive and lead to me feeling distressed. These thoughts and feelings will sometimes interfere with my ability to concentrate and focus on things in life.
Fixations can range in what they are. I might fixate on something as little as that picture on the wall or I might fixate on something social that happened. Maybe I feel that I made social error or mistake in a social situation. If that is the case, then
