    Rebecca

When Rebecca was born to a little fourteen year old teenager, who had been raped, she was placed with Social Services. The young mother, only a child herself, was unable to care for her and with much regret gave her up for adoption. A wonderful Christian lady named Martha, who had no children of her own, visited the institution where Rebecca was placed and from the first moment she laid eyes on Rebecca, she decided to see if Rebecca was to be put in foster care. Martha filled out all the necessary forms and in about two months when Rebecca was six months old, Martha’s application was approved and so began a very special relationship.

Rebecca was a very personable baby, never meeting a stranger. She had a head full of dark curly hair, dark eyes that seemed to sparkle every time she smiled and dimples in both cheeks. Everyone she met just fell in love with her. When Rebecca was around two years old, Martha filled out papers to adopt her whose name had by this time been shortened to Becca. From the first day that Martha brought Becca home with her, she always took her to church. She seemed to be everybody’s baby because of her sunny disposition and was so loveable and cute. She would go to anyone who wanted to hold her. She was a very good baby. While in church, you would hardly know she was there. She would look around and smile at everyone. Each year on her birthday after the services on Sunday night, the church would serve ice cream and cake. There just were not very many babies in church at this time, it being a very small congregation, and that made Becca very special. She loved to go to Sunday school and by the time she started to school she knew all the books of the Bible.

On her first day of school she was dressed in her favorite outfit, a beautiful yellow blouse with matching slacks. She had on a new pair of black patent leather Mary Jane’s. She was so proud of her new clothes and was very careful not to get them messed up. At recess she didn’t play with the other children, because she was afraid to get dirty. But that was the first day of school; she learned that to be popular she would have to join in with the rest of the children and play their games. It didn’t take her long to learn all the games and she became very proficient at all of them. Of course like all children, she had her good days and her bad days and in the second month of school, she found out that talking too much could get you in a lot of trouble and talking back to the teacher was even worse. She had always had good manners and was obedient but some days being a brat would just come out of her and then you guessed it, she was sent to the principal’s office. The first time the principal only gave her a good talking to, but of course the next time she was paddled. Well you would think this taught her a lesson but it took a few more trips to the principal’s office before the lesson was well learned.

Her elementary school years passed without very many more problems and soon she was in middle school. This was the time to start thinking about what she would be training for when she graduated. She loved animals and always had a lots of cats and dogs around her house so she decided that a veterinarian would be a good vocation for her so she started thinking about all the subjects, science, biology and animal science classes that she would need and those that would be offered when she was ready for high school and college. She loved all of her classes and excelled in them. Her teachers and her mother were all very proud of her.

At last she finished her primary education, graduation day was upon her. At the graduation ceremonies, she received a nice surprise; she was to be granted a small scholarship. Now was the hard decision of which college to attend. The small scholarship would not be enough for the eight years she would have to have in order to be a full fledged veterinarian. She found out with her excellent grade points she could also get a grant to go along with the scholarship and would be able to repay it when she got out of school and started practicing her profession.

She had many exciting experiences while she attended college for her eight years. Some were very good, but she also had a few that she could have done without. She found out she also
