Chapter 1 The Big Storm
It is raining in Seattle. Not just a normal hard rain but a Seattle down pour. The weatherman finally hit one on the head. But how could anyone miss it. A huge storm in the central Pacific has stalled and is pointing a 36-mile wide, three miles tall water pipe right at Seattle. The Olympic peninsula cannot stop but only slows down what is coming. Forks, a Washington town on the coast is expecting several inches of water an hour. It has and will be that way for the next week at least.
The slugs have gone to a full body suit on their boats. The ducks decided that hip boots and rubber hats are enough, if they can get on the slug’s boat.
Inspector Strong and Ted McClearly left early to go steelhead fishing on the peninsula. They are well aware of what has them in its sight. They have prepared for the worst plus 50%. Fishing will likely be the best in 100 years. Ted has a four-wheel power wagon with chains for all four wheels. The tires are extra-large mud tires.
Ted McClearly is the Regional FBI Director for the Northwest, headquartered in Seattle. He first met the Inspector when he was a Major in the Army. He was the lesion officer between base security and the Military Police commanded by Major Strong.
Ted is five years younger than Inspector Strong and almost an exact opposite. He is the typical FBI agent, tall, a full head of hair, all business, posture almost too perfect.
He was promoted to the Major’s position Inspector Strong held in the military police. The Inspector had recommended his replacement be Ted McClearly, then a Captain in the police force.
After several years more in the military, Ted left to join the FBI running one of their special ops units. The FBI quickly recognized his management as well as his tactical skills. He moved from a high-profile FBI Command Center to the Seattle Regional Directorship. He is a more hands on Director than most. Except for FBI staff he goes simply by the name Ted
.
He is now a steelhead-fishing buddy with Inspector Strong. They hit the rivers whenever it rains more than two inches in Seattle They have been involved in several cases that have crossed many jurisdictions with security reaching the highest levels. Several times Ted has pulled Rage and Jones out of some tough places with lead flying every which way. Likewise, the two of them have helped Ted get some really bad guys.
There is no cell phone reception where they are going but Ted has an ace up his sleeve. As the Regional FBI Director, Ted has two satellite phones with him. They will operate any place in the world. But his staff can handle any event when he is gone.
A week before the rain started Ted picked up Earl and they scouted the rivers they will be fishing. They choose a knoll for their camp which would let the rain water runoff. They also dug
